With so many businesses moving their telephony to the cloud, what will happen to their on-premises devices and legacy systems is a common concern that hasn’t historically had an easy answer. Not all of their investments are ready for retirement just yet, but they aren’t necessarily a perfect fit for a cloud approach either.

Fortunately, services are now available to help organisations overcome this challenge. Pure IP for example, has recently launched SIP Connect, a new service that connects legacy on-premises and analogue services to the cloud. Everything from fax machines, video conferencing units, and door entry systems will be supported, so these systems can benefit from cloud technology without the costly process of replacing them outright.

SIP Connect works by creating a single SIP endpoint in the Pure IP voice network, to which SIP registered devices can be linked, which reduces the need for separate connections and services. A SIP endpoint allows analogue devices to act like any other SIP device linked to your central network and make/receive calls through your SIP gateway. This enables businesses to extend the life of their legacy devices and systems, all while centralising management, improving visibility over physical devices, and unifying the experience for users.

Ian Guest, the Marketing Director at Pure IP, said that the service is perfect for businesses that have built up an ecosystem of devices over years of investment in different technologies.

Businesses may still be amortising the cost of some of their legacy investments, or there may not be suitable or cost-effective replacements. SIP Connect will be useful to any of those companies that would like to continue using their legacy devices, or are planning an extended transition process to cloud communications , Guest explained.

Many organisations are operating in hybrid environments, or moving to the cloud using a phased approach, but still need to consolidate their services and simplify their operations,” Guest continued:

SIP Connect has been designed to do exactly that; consolidate the tricky elements of their voice environment into a single service, which makes it easier to manage

As well as helping organizations integrate their services, using SIP endpoints to move devices into the cloud offers a range of real-world advantages. Relocating physical devices becomes an option, as does porting whole number ranges without then having to order a new number for your on-premises device.

SIP Connect is available as an add-on service to Pure IP’s SeRVE; the fully managed enterprise voice solution based on their extensive global SIP network. SeRVE combines the reach of Pure IP’s voice network, with their flexible managed services, 24/7 technical support, and dedicated online customer portal.
