As the world adapts to working from different locations, people are keen to ensure they have access to high quality audio and video equipment that enables them to have similar experiences to those in fully featured corporate meeting rooms in traditional offices. Workers are increasingly aware that best effort consumer cameras, built-in microphones and lack of additional features such as noise cancellation and appropriate lighting puts them at a disadvantage in meetings and prevents them from presenting themselves and performing at their best.

This need has resulted in growing awareness of the idea that regardless of where you are, you should be able to participate in sessions with the features you would normally have in a meeting or huddle space in the corporate office. The good news is that the technology is now available to make this happen, balancing cost with features and experience quality.

“The pandemic has demonstrated that employees can work where they want as long as they have the right tools in order to maximise collaboration,” said Gavin Sear, EMEA Product Marketing Lead for Poly. “Flexible and hybrid working has helped people realise how distant people can be so businesses are now more engaged in bringing in the home worker to richer communications capabilities. At the same time, people have realised the value of video and having Poly video experiences that bring in remote workers.”

Poly launched its Studio P series, a range of cameras -in the form of a webcam, a video bar and a monitor-  that are easy to use and set up for home workers. The products have been designed to address the needs of working from anywhere which is of growing importance as hybrid working becomes the norm and workers need to carry video and audio devices from home offices to customer meetings and traditional offices.

“From a user perspective, it’s about making it simple,” added Jonathan Clark, Senior Solutions Marketing Manager EMEA at Poly. “Users need the confidence that the equipment is going to work whether it’s a Poly Studio P5 camera or our Voyager headsets. The other challenge is manageability. It’s difficult enough to manage devices in the confines of a traditional office but providing improved experiences remotely adds complexity for IT teams which is why we’ve developed the Poly Lens tool to empower the IT function to monitor and manage the device estate.”

Clark adds that Poly also offers 24/7 support so there’s always someone to call for help when needed and also emphasises that the company is keen to demonstrate how its devices can enable meeting equality.

“From our perspective, seeing is believing,” he explained. “Pre-pandemic we would utilise the Poly Executive Experience Centre to demonstrate our designs and capabilities such as noise blocking, which gets rid of distracting noises including paper being scrunched up or dogs barking. We’re now giving virtual tours and demos so people can experience our acoustic innovations and our latest technologies”
