Microsoft Teams, a leading solution for digital collaboration, recently revealed the arrival of a highly sought-after feature. As mentioned in a UserVoice forum request, the Microsoft Teams group said that they’re already working on an automatic recording solution for Teams, after user “Andreas” asked for it. The user posted in 2018 that it would be nice for Teams users to have the option to start recording automatically when beginning a meeting.
This feature would come in handy when you know you need to record a meeting in advance, according to Andreas, and it would reduce the risk of forgetting to start the recording straight away. Teams Engineering employee, Alex, said that the team was currently working on the request as of the 27th of April 2021.
Looking Forward to Automatic Recordings
An automatic recording feature will be a useful tool for Microsoft Teams users, particularly as more employees continue to work in remote and hybrid environments. As companies strive to keep the in-office and remote employees in their teams connected, recordings can help to ensure that nobody misses out on important conversations and briefings.
Recordings can also be useful for important conversations where people may need to go back and check on details for productivity, compliance, or efficiency purposes. Though recording has been available with Teams for a while, the new capability will allow users to set automatic recording within the app settings, so that the app starts recording automatically whenever a meeting starts. The app will show a pop-up to remind you that the meeting is being recorded, and let your contacts know the same.
Automatic recording might not seem like a world-changing feature at first, but it’s sure to appeal to all of the Teams users out there who forget to press record until it’s already too late. The automatic feature is already available on competing videoconferencing and collaboration platforms like Zoom. You can even set automatic recording in Microsoft Events, but not in Meetings.
When Will It Be Available?
Microsoft hasn’t announced any official dates of when the feature will be available to use yet. Currently, there’s no set ETA on the roadmap, but you can keep a close eye on the Microsoft forums to see whether it’s coming up any time soon.
This is yet another example of Microsoft striving to address all the requests made by users over the years, even if it takes a little while to come back to some of them.
