Zoom has revealed the general availability of its Zoom Events Conference solution and React Native for Zoom’s Video SDK developer support, as well as a host of updates for its collaboration suite.
The Zoom Events solution has now been expanded to include conferences that span across multiple days and sessions – using the same technology that saw 33,000 people attend Zoomtopia 2021 in October.
Organisers can now spread events across five days, with up to 13 sessions running at any one time.
Zoom has also announced a host of new features to ensure that events run smoothly. Up to 20 users can be assigned as event co-editors to spread the workload, while speakers can be given the control to edit their own session information and bios. Session and speaker information can now be uploaded with a single click.
Zoom Conference is designed to be an interactive and immersive experience. Users can chat before, during and after sessions, and add other attendees as contacts. Organisers also have the ability to moderate chat channels.
Analytics can be viewed throughout and after events, giving organisers the ability to understand attendance and engagement. There is also support for event sponsorship, with benefits such as dedicated virtual spaces, tiered levels and video upload.
Zoom has also expanded the reach of Zoom Events. Paid events can now be hosted in eight new regions: Brazil, Hong Kong, Italy, Netherlands, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland.
These are in addition to the United States, United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and France.
Free events can be hosted in the majority of regions where Zoom operates. View more here.
Zoom is also hosting webinars on 4 and 18 November, where users can learn more about Zoom Events.
React Native
Zoom also announced the general availability of its React Native for Zoom Video SDK, which it said has been highly requested across the developer community. React Native is an open-source framework for developing mobile apps.
Initially announced at Zoomtopia 2021, the SDK will let developers build customisable video-based applications across Android and iOS, or add video to existing apps to enhance user experience without the need to write native code.
Zoom said that the React Native for Video SDK will be supported by Zoom itself and will have a similar feature set to the native iOS and Android Video SDKs.
More information on Zoom’s developer tools can be found here or in Zoom’s recently launched community.
Platform Updates
The announcements came as Zoom revealed a plethora of updates for its platform.
Live meeting transcriptions are now available for all free Zoom Meetings – a move designed to increase the accessibility of meetings.
The feature can be enabled in the Zoom web portal, while meeting participants can request that the host turns it on by selecting the option in the meeting toolbar. Captions are available in English but Zoom will be adding more languages in the future.
Other in-meeting updates include the ability for a user to stop all incoming video, as well as two-way chat in waiting rooms that let participants engage with meeting hosts before a meeting starts.
Hosts will also soon be able to see whether all users invited to a meeting have arrived – and have the ability to send a chat message directly from the in-meeting participant panel to those that have not yet joined. This feature is available for all free users and will be rolled out to licensed accounts over the coming months.
Zoom Phone Updates
Zoom Phone recently hit two million seats, with the updates coming thick and fast.
Zoom has now announced new integrations with Zendesk IFTTT.
The IFTTT integration lets users create automated workflows between Zoom Phone and more than 600 applications, including tools such as Zoho and Dropbox. This will allow users to simplify actions such as storing call recordings.
Meanwhile, the Zendesk integration means that Zoom Phone calls can be made from within Zendesk itself.
From a hardware perspective, Zoom Phone Appliances – announced in June – has been expanded to include new manufacturers. Launch partners Poly and Yealink have been joined by the likes of Jabra, EPOS and AudioCodes as certified partners. The devices can be purchased via authorised resellers.
