As enterprises grapple with the challenges of hybrid working and seek to support those who work remotely, they face substantial concerns regarding performance, complexity and security of their cloud communication and collaboration solutions.
According to the Omdia 2021 Unified Communications and Collaboration (UCC) Trends to Watch report:
- 60% of organisations have between four and ten different communication and collaboration solutions, leading to high costs, low integration between systems, and complexity in managing multiple vendors and contracts
- During the pandemic, organisations have procured numerous subscription services from multiple vendors to stave off the initial threat of losing their businesses
- As businesses start to consider the mid-to-long-term implications of supporting multiple services, rationalization and consolidation into a single strategic suite is likely to prevail
- The top three positive outcomes organisations expected from the consolidation of disparate solutions to a single UCC solution are improved team productivity, lower costs, and easier management and administration
Enterprises often lack expertise when it comes to assessing risk and don’t have a clear roadmap to aid their Unified Collaboration (UC) platform selection process. They also face substantial risks associated with manual transition processes when moving from old, on-premise PBXs to a new cloud UC environment. Regulatory compliance in various countries as well as security aspects also need to be considered during migration.
Most organisations do not have all the in-house resources required for such an initiative. Whether it is the right skills or the right tools, it helps to partner with an expert who can bring in the right resources to shorten the learning and adoption curve, ensure ROI and ensure a successful migration to the new Unified Communications as a Service (UCaaS) solution.
To address these customer needs, Tata Communications has launched its GlobalRapide portfolio of integrated managed services to help enterprises with migration, end-to-end management and automation of UCaaS.
“Enterprises are now turning their attention to the unified element of collaboration and looking to ensure they can support hybrid and remote workers alongside traditional office employees,” said Sriram Sampath, Vice President, Collaboration & Connectivity Solutions – Business Collaboration, Tata Communications.
“Bandwidth capacity, hardware and access points are fundamental ingredients of secure UCaaS that help mitigate the risks and identify performance-sensitive workloads for all users and sites. Customers need help on their migration journeys so they can prioritise integration requirements and avoid interruptions associated with a rip and replace strategy”
Many firms, particularly large ones, have a complex telephony system and a large base of users. They typically manage multiple vendor contracts across regional borders so evaluating all the organisations involved, including service integrators, telephony providers, end-point device manufacturers and video endpoints for conferencing, is complex. Enterprises utilise multiple legacy telephony systems implemented over several years – sometimes without clarity over asset location and ownership terms. Unravelling this in order to transition to a new UCaaS platform can be an enormous administrative as well as operational challenge and the pain continues when trying to assess what features will – or will not – be available in the new system.
Cloud migration without a comprehensive migration roadmap runs the risk of migration failure. Organisations who attempt to migrate on their own are fighting an uphill battle and can become over-stretched, overlooking adoption and change management and therefore limiting user uptake and ultimately return on investment.
“Lack of automation and self-service tools along with expensive manual labour are key contributors to failed migrations. In addition to this, many organisations do not leverage the investments they make on their devices and licences during their migration to cloud” added Sampath. “Enterprises need to accelerate the time-consuming migration process and centralise into a single pane of glass for all the information needed. This is a significant contrast to having to manage multiple, complex UC deployment tools and really helps simplify UCaaS cloud migration for customers.”
