Mitel Service Returns Following Carrier DDoS Attack

Mitel’s voice service is back up and running after a DDoS attack on its SIP carrier caused an outage on Friday.

In a message sent to customers and posted on social media by Mitel, the firm said that some customers experienced interrupted voice services and call disruptions – before the issues were fixed on the same day.

“We know that our customers’ communications are mission-critical to your business and to your end customers,” Mitel said.

“We take this situation very seriously and will communicate any additional updates quickly.”

Mitel’s service status page shows that the issue lasted for around three hours on Friday. The outage was identified as being the result of a DDoS attack around two hours after the engineers began investigating, with DDoS mitigations then brought into effect.

No further issues have been reported since Friday.

Mitel did not name the carrier that was affected, but DDoS attacks on voice providers have become increasingly common this year, with a high-profile attack in September seeing Bandwidth targeted.
