UC Team Collaboration Statistics for 2022

The term “Team Collaboration” isn’t new, but the way we define it is changing. Over the last few years, our understanding of what collaboration should look like has evolved to suit a transforming landscape. Remote, hybrid, and distributed workplaces are paving the way for more “digital” collaboration. Team interactions happen through a range of platforms, from video to messaging.

In the Unified Communication landscape, “Team Collaboration” refers to the tools in the workplace which enable alignment between staff. These tools, from video conferencing and screen sharing systems to messaging channels and threads, keep people productive wherever they are.

The following statistics will offer an insight into just how valuable the UC team collaboration landscape is, and how it’s evolving.

The Evolving State of Team Collaboration

Interest in the UC team collaboration market has increased significantly since the arrival of the pandemic. With staff now working from a range of different environments, companies need tools which can streamline the flow of knowledge and improve interactions.

Even before the pandemic, Gartner predicted that employees would rely on team and workstream collaboration tools as their primary environment for work by 2022. Now the global Team Collaboration software market size is set to reach a value of $22.95 billion by 2026.

  • Since 2019, Gartner has seen a 44% rise in workers using collaboration tools. According to the analyst’s Digital Worker Experience survey, 80% of workers use collaboration tools as of 2021, up from just over half of employees in 2019. – Gartner Digital Worker Survey

  • Slack, one of the top technology solutions for asynchronous messaging and chat has more than ten million daily active users, according to 2021 reports. – Slack
  • Despite the value of collaboration tools, too many software solutions can lead to overwhelm. According to Microsoft, the number of meetings employees engage in has increased by 148%, while the number of weekly team chat sessions is up by 45%. – Microsoft Work Trend Index

Team Collaboration as a Solution for Hybrid Work

Perhaps the primary purpose for the adoption of team collaboration solutions in UC landscapes today, is to connect hybrid and remote workers. The Microsoft Work Trend Index found around 70% of workers were looking for flexible work to continue after the pandemic, and 66% of companies were redesigning their offices for hybrid work.

Collaboration tools ensure teams can continue to collaborate and share knowledge, even in an environment where staff members don’t share the same physical space.

  • Platforms for collaboration are primarily used for connecting remote workers (91%), improving communication between coworkers and managers (84%), team management (61%), and project management (54%). TechRepublic
  • Gartner found, with the right collaboration technology, hybrid teams were 70% more likely to be agile, 66% more likely to feel comfortable in their role, and 67% also agreed their team was skilled at working asynchronously. – Gartner Collaboration

  • Though demand for hybrid work is growing, companies need to ensure they’re implementing collaboration tools correctly if they want to avoid overwhelm and fatigue. Gartner found around only 17% of companies were implementing no meeting days to reduce burnout. – Gartner Collaboration

The demand for UC collaboration tools is growing at an incredible pace, particularly now the workplace is more remote and dispersed than ever. With these tools, we can ensure work doesn’t have to be restricted by a specific set of geographical boundaries. UC collaboration tools bring employees together in environments that surpass physical space.
