New Microsoft Teams Features that help in Hybrid Work

Front row for Microsoft Teams Rooms
Front row is a new meeting layout in Teams. It places the speaker or the content being presented front and center of the gallery, with the video feed of other participants appearing on the bottom. Meeting participants can focus on what is being communicated at any given moment, without getting distracted, similar to how we experience face-to-face interactions.
Teams-certified intelligent cameras
Microsoft will equip Teams Rooms with a new category of AI-powered intelligent cameras that use audio, facial movements, and gestures to detect the speaker. These cameras can be positioned in conference rooms as well as home offices to provide immersive and distraction-free meeting experiences. The company intends to work with Jabra, Neat, Poly, and Yealink on this feature.
Automatic lighting corrections
The recently launched lighting corrections capability will correct ambient conditions when conducting meetings in a low-light environment. This way, there will be better parity between employees working from home and those in the office, even if they are meeting from different devices. Along with lighting correction, the update introduces facial retouching as well.
Mesh for Teams
Mesh is Microsoft’s take on a unified virtual reality (VR) space or the metaverse. In the future, Microsoft will integrate Teams with Mesh, which means that users will be able to perform Teams actions inside VR. Accenture already has a virtual office campus in Mesh, called the Nth Floor. Innovations like these could effectively cut across locational barriers and make hybrid work absolutely seamless.
Microsoft Loop for Teams
Microsoft Loop was announced in November 2021, and it will allow users to create app components that update in real-time. For example, if you create a table inside a Microsoft Teams chat, chat participants will be able to interact with the table and update it without leaving Teams. The changes will also be synchronized across all apps and users that can update the table, without any added efforts. Loop could make a massive difference to hybrid work as it makes every collaboration app more powerful and provides users with a dynamic asynchronous space where they can work together.

The biggest enabler for hybrid work in Teams, is possibly its integration marketplace. Microsoft AppSource has connectors for industry solutions, analytics, design and project management, customer relationships, and much more. You can use fikaTime to schedule a coffee break between two employees in a distributed workforce, WorkInSync to book desks in a hybrid workplace, and Team Tracker to check a team member’s availability. There are hundreds of integrations available for Teams users, simplifying every aspect of the remote work experience.
