GoTo Snares Channel Boss from RingCentral

GoTo has appointed Michael Day as Vice President of Partner Sales.

Day joins from RingCentral, where he had been in channel-facing roles since 2016.

GoTo’s current channel boss, Patrick McCue, will move to head up the channel business at GoTo’s LastPass business.

Mike Kohlsdorf, CEO at GoTo, said: “As we look towards the future of both GoTo and LastPass, it is clear that we need industry experts to lead partner programmes at both businesses.

“Today, I’m excited to welcome Michael Day to GoTo. With years of experience in the UCaaS and software space, Michael’s skillset positions him well to continue to grow effective partner programmes for all GoTo products.

“For the LastPass business, Patrick McCue’s past experience at security companies made him our natural pick to lead the LastPass partner programme.”

Before being at RingCentral, Kohlsdorf spent 13 years at SCRAM Systems, which provides software to the criminal justice and government industry.

DTEN’S Hybrid Office Solutions Integrate Workspace Reservation

DTEN is combining some of its devices with Zoom’s Workspace Reservation to aid in the transition back to office work.

Accessing Workspace Reservation on a DTEN device enables employees to view and reserve available workstations and meeting rooms.

Some DTEN devices are being paired with Workspace Reservation including the DTEN D7 and DTEN ME Pro.

The pairing of DTEN and Zoom technology will allegedly streamline office management solutions as staff across Fortune 500 corporations are returning to work, at least on a part-time basis.

Cary Bran, Global Head of Zoom Rooms, said: “Managing the return to work can seem like a big puzzle. Companies have employees entering the office on different days, needing a variety of spaces, and all concerned about safety and productivity.

“Workspace Reservation from Zoom provides the solution: it delivers an easy way for companies to manage the hybrid office, enabling employees to reserve workspaces that best meet their specific needs and DTEN devices seamlessly support the entire ecosystem.”

DTEN points to Edelman Data X Intelligence’s 2021 Work Trend Index Survey that 66% of companies are considering office reconfiguration, including hotdesking.

End-to-End Encryption Coming to Google Meet

Google Workspace is announcing new features to improve the office, hybrid, and remote team communications, including end-to-end encryption on Google Meet.

In May, Google Meet will have optional client-side encryption, giving customers direct control of the identity provider and encryption keys. Later in the year, Google will add optional end-to-end encryption for all meetings.

Google Workspace will also be adding in-meeting reactions, Meet directly to Docs, Sheets, and Slides, picture-in-picture, and automatic noise cancellation on all Google Meet hardware.

The list of new features continues with Google Personal video tile from Companion mode, livestream attendees will be able to participate in Q&A polls, streaming meetings directly to YouTube, and several upgrades to Spaces and Google Voice.

Dave Citron, Director of Product for Google Meet, Meet Hardware, Google Duo, Google Voice, Jamboard, & WebRTC, said in a press briefing: “Since 2020, it’s become increasingly clear that human connection is crucial.

“We know we need solutions that help people build connections that can bridge the gap between physical spaces and the somewhere else.

“This update will work towards making those in physical space have the same experience as those who are working remotely.”

Teams Apps to Work Outside of Teams

Teams apps have been made available in Outlook and Office.com for users enrolled in the Targeted Release program.

Microsoft announced a new Teams SDK that allows developers to create Microsoft Teams apps that extend Teams to Office, Outlook, and other parts of Microsoft 365.

The rollout to users in the Targeted Release program marks the first wave of developers to be given access to its new software.

Microsoft has released information about enhancements to some of its apps, such as Power BI, and its partnerships with Mural, Zoho and other ISVs to build apps using this devkit.

In a blog post, Microsoft said: “Today, we are making the first group of these Teams apps available in Preview for Outlook and Office.com for users enrolled in the Targeted Release program.

“With this enhancement, apps built for Teams not only run everywhere Teams runs, but also in more of the places that users spend their time in Microsoft 365, like Outlook and Office.com.”

The practical implications for users will be seeing Teams applications appearing in Outlook and Office.com.
