The endpoint vendor, Konftel, has been officially recognised as Climate Neutral for the third consecutive year.

To meet the certification standards for the eco-friendly status, Konftel announced a series of carbon cutbacks.

Its environmental commitments include:

  • Reducing plastic bag use by 50%.
  • Increasing renewable energy usage at manufacturing facilities.
  • Cutting staff car commutes by 40%.

Konftel claims to be the first Climate Neutral company in unified communications.

CMO Stefan Eriksson, said: “Buying from Konftel ensures our customers have a ‘clear climate conscience’ that there are zero net carbon emissions from our manufacturing processes.

“We believe every company should be climate neutral and invest in our planet. It’s about measuring, offsetting and reducing emissions to help the world become net-zero by 2050.

“We find that our customers, our partners and our people really care about all of this. We have put it at the very heart of our business because it’s the right thing to do. Yes, the right thing from a commercial perspective, but also the right thing from an environmental and ethical perspective.

“When customers buy from us, they know they are buying from an organisation which has no carbon footprint whatsoever; zero net emissions. This is a major statement of intent. The technology we produce works in harmony with our climate-neutral philosophy.

Konftel believes its users will be able to have a clear climate conscience when using its products. By opting to use conferencing calling, instead of travelling by car, rail or aeroplane for meetings, it will result in lower electricity and petrol consumption. This is on top of the climate-friendly changes to Konftel’s manufacturing process.

By 2023, polythene bags used in packaging the Konftel 800, Konftel Cam20, and Konftel Cam50 will be reduced by 50%. Smaller parts, such as cables, will use biodegradable bags or no bags.

Konftel is hoping to increase the ratio of renewable energy usage at its main manufacturing facilities within the same timeframe.

The company is encouraging hybrid working to lower the amount of car commuting among its staff.

Konftel is also investing in several green projects worldwide, including forest conservation and management in the USA, Costa Rica, and Zimbabwe; renewable energy in China, India, and Indonesia; water filtration in Cambodia; reducing landfills in the USA, and funding clean cooking stoves in Mali.

Austin Whitman, CEO of Climate Neutral, the organisation that awards Climate Neutral Certification, said: “Climate Neutral Certified companies show the world that immediate action on climate change is possible and essential.

“In just three years, the growing number of Climate Neutral Certified brands has built a powerful movement that gives companies and consumers meaningful ways to act on climate, right now.

“Certified brands are leading the way by recognising that climate change must be solved. They believe that all companies should take immediate voluntary action to zero out their entire carbon footprint, and they are engaging their consumers around this important issue like never before.

“Our label helps consumers identify these brands. It’s a recognisable and trusted symbol that turns everyday purchases into meaningfully positive climate action.”

Climate Neutral believes Konftel and other certified brands are leading the global movement towards a net-zero economy. It thinks that every company should be taking similar measures to offset and reduce their carbon emissions.

Over 260 brands have now achieved Climate Neutral status by fulfilling the necessary criteria of measuring their carbon footprints for 2021, purchasing carbon credits, and planning to reduce emissions through the current year and beyond.

Climate Neutral Certified brands have so far offset 783,768 tonnes of carbon.

The Konftel 800, planned for reduced plastic packaging, recently received Zoom certification. Similarly, the Konftel Cam20, which is on the plastic cutbacks product list, was awarded Zoom certification last month.

Last year, UC Today spoke with Konftel about Climate Neutral certification.
