How to Remove Profile Picture from Zoom

The profile picture is a staple in any social media or collaboration tool, helping other users quickly identify friends or colleagues from a contact list or group. Indeed, profile pictures are a quintessential part of Web 2.0 characterized by social interconnections, which could one day be replaced by the 3D virtual avatars of Web 3.0. For now, profile pictures in Zoom perform two purposes – it helps identify a person in a contact list, and it also replaces your video feed in a Zoom call in case your webcam is turned off.

By default, before you have the chance to upload a Zoom profile picture, the video conferencing application will show your initials as a stand-in for the image. Importantly, it is mandatory to add both your first and last name before you can use Zoom. If you do not want your initials to appear, you can upload a profile image.

How to Remove Profile Picture from Zoom

There could be several reasons you may want to remove your profile picture from Zoom. Not having a profile picture can protect user privacy during external meetings with members outside the organization. Some Zoom users have faced an issue where their profile picture only shows intermittently – you may want to remove and reupload the image in such a scenario. Or, you may feel that the older photo is no longer relevant, but you are yet to choose a new one.

No matter the reason, it is a simple process to remove your profile picture from Zoom, and the functionality is available from the account management section on the Zoom desktop app or browser portal.

Steps to Remove Profile Picture from Zoom Desktop

On a desktop device, the easiest way to remove your Zoom profile picture is by signing into the web portal from your preferred browser:

1. Sign into the Zoom web portal using your account credentials.

2. Go to the navigation menu and click on Profile.

3. You will see your profile picture displayed clearly – you can click on it to change the image.

4. Click on delete to remove the profile picture.

5. To change your other profile information like name, pronouns, departments, job title, company, location, etc., click on the edit button on the right side.

6. A profile page of the Zoom app has a variety of other sections, including account configurations, sign-in credentials, etc.

7. Exit once you have removed the profile picture and made other necessary changes.

Once you have removed your profile picture, the change will reflect in your Zoom app settings on every device you are signed in.

If you are using Zoom via the desktop app and not from a browser, find the existing profile image on the top right corner of the app. Click on your current image to navigate to your Profile and follow the same steps.

Steps to Remove Profile Picture from Zoom Mobile

Changing some of your profile settings from the Zoom mobile app for Android and iOS environments is also possible. Still, unfortunately, this does not include the ability to remove the Zoom profile picture. However, you can still remove your profile image using a smartphone if you cannot access a PC right away. Here are the steps to follow:

1. Open the Zoom website on a browser from your mobile phone. Ensure that you are connected to the internet via Wi-Fi or a cellular network.

2. You will see a mobile-optimized version of the website. Scroll down until you can see the Account section on the bottom banner.

3. Tap on Account, and from the Account Profile menu, choose Profile.

4. Tap on the Profile button, and you will be able to see your Zoom profile image.

5. There are two options below the image – change and delete. Tap on Delete.

Unable to Remove Your Zoom Profile Picture?

Sometimes, even after you have manually removed it, Zoom may try to synchronize with other accounts and find an image to help identify you among your co-workers. For example, the student ID picture may synchronize with Zoom by default in an educational institution despite removing the image. In such cases, one can upload a “dummy picture” with a simple silhouette of a person or a vector of your credentials as the profile picture instead of removing it altogether.

Choosing the best image for Zoom is an important decision, and users should ensure that the image is of high quality, correctly cropped, and properly positioned. While selecting the best image, you may choose to remove your Zoom profile picture temporarily.
