Workplace from Meta has secured its largest customer yet through a 1.9m-user deal with McDonald’s.

The platform will be used as a communication and shift management tool, enabling workers to collaborate over mobile and strengthen employee relationships.

McDonald’s believes Workplace will enhance employee experience for its workers, including frontline workers.

Heidi Capozzi, Global Chief People Officer, McDonald’s Corporation, said: “At McDonald’s, we know the employee experience directly fuels the customer experience—and we are committed to being exceptional in both areas.

“By offering Workplace as a resource for those at the heart of our restaurants, we and our franchisees can make it easier for crew to grow and succeed in their jobs, and to build deeper, more meaningful connections with their teams.”

Although this news has only recently been made generally available, McDonald’s has already started using Workplace in restaurants across eleven markets, including Australia, New Zealand, Portugal, Poland, Slovakia, and company-owned restaurants in the United States.

McDonald’s has plans to extend Workplace to its restaurants in Canada, the United Kingdom, Belgium, Switzerland, and Saudi Arabia.

The results from the integration of Workplace show it reduces communication time lags for frontline workers by 34%.

73% of Portuguese restaurants are actively using Workplace every week, and 140,000 messages are sent in Spain using Workplace each month.

In Australia, 100,000 accounts have been claimed, and 85% of employees are active weekly users.

Christine Trodella, Director, Reality Labs at Meta, said: “We knew McDonald’s was looking for a platform to share information more effectively and to foster community by connecting, informing, and empowering teams.

“We’re very proud McDonald’s has chosen Workplace to improve restaurant communication and as a key employee engagement platform.

“We look forward to partnering on the continuing journey to build the very best employee experience for McDonald’s teams around the world.”

The Workplace Knowledge Library also gives McDonald’s employees a means of locating training documents and other information they may need for their roles, such as promotional materials, business updates, and learning opportunities.

According to Meta, McDonald’s was searching for an accessible and intuitive collaboration platform which could integrate into its current system.

Last year, Workplace renewed a deal with Vodafone, covering a workforce of 90,000. BT is another to have adopted Workplace and reports that the collaboration platform has led to a 70% increase in employee engagement.
