Workplace from Meta has released several new features to improve the user experience on its platform.

Highlights this month include integrating Workplace Chat onto the Workplace application, plugin updates, and access to post insights.

Last month, the collaboration software company made headlines by securing a 1.9 million-user deal with McDonald’s

Mobile App Adds Messaging

Workplace Chat is being made available via the Workplace mobile app, making it easier to keep up-to-date with company news and chat simultaneously.

Previously, workers would have needed to download Workplace Chat separately. Workplace from Meta believes that this update will be particularly welcomed by frontline workers who generally prefer to minimise the number of apps on their phones.

Voice and video calls are not currently an option in the mobile app, but these can still be performed using the Workplace Chat mobile app.

Admins can opt into the messaging integration through the admin panel. This gives company employees who have not downloaded Workplace Chat the ability to message on the Workplace app. Employees who already have the Workplace Chat app will not be affected.

Plugin Improvements

New plugin updates will allow admins to assign content sharing rights. As a result, those users selected will be able to share Workplace content to internal websites and intranets.

There are more types of content which can be shared, such as single posts and whole groups.

The option to allow sharing to all or specific sites has been added, and posts can also be pinned to a plugin.

Users who do not have content sharing rights can now comment on Workplace posts and view plugins from their mobile phones.

Content Sharing Integrations

Integrations which share Workplace content have been updated to include a new tab for plugin installations on the admin panel integrations page. The page explains how to integrate, along with screenshots to elucidate the process.

Microsoft Teams and other content-sharing integrations can be set up and managed from the ‘All integrations’ tab. Similarly, a setup guide and screenshots can be found on the Microsoft Teams integration page.

Post Insights and Post Views

Insights are available for users who draft a post for somebody else. The insights include comment sentiment, completion rate, and others.

For internal posts, it is now possible to download a list of the people who have viewed a post via post insights. Admins, post drafters and creators using desktop computers will have access to this feature.

Content and Captions

Workplace has added a skip button for screen and keyboard users to navigate more quickly to the relevant content.

The default setting for auto-generated captions will be on, but it can be toggled off again if the user prefers.

Post Preview and Photo Uploads

Posts can now be previewed to see how they look from a viewer’s perspective. A preview can be provided for both desktop and mobile.

High-resolution photos will be the default upload setting for all iOS and Android Workplace app users.

Video and Events

Live video has new control, which includes changing the broadcast layout and muting other participants. There are also new points of entry to live video using the left-hand menu.

A ‘Discover’ events page has been added so users can see which events they are eligible for.

Users can join an event live using integrations, and live polls can be set up before broadcasting.

Workplace from Meta has recently been working with WWF to improve communication and collaboration.

According to Workplace, it has over 7 million users worldwide. Its customers include big names, such as Nestlé, AstraZeneca, Telefonica, GSK, Deliveroo, Spotify, Virgin Atlantic, McDonald’s, and more.
