A Wednesday (August 17) announcement for Microsoft partners revealed changes to Microsoft Teams Rooms plans and pricing before it was removed by the company.

The Register reported, “Microsoft has advised its partner community that it will soon drop the price it charges for Teams Rooms and add a version of the product aimed at small business”.

Currently, a Teams Room Premium license costs $50 per month or $15 per month for the Standard licence.

According to the Microsoft announcement post, the current Premium offering of Teams Rooms will be replaced by a $40 per month Pro tier.

The post stated:

“It delivers enhanced in-room meeting experiences, like intelligent audio or video, multiscreen support, our full-set of device management capabilities, and future differentiated value.

“It’s the appropriate license for the Enterprise segment and for smaller organizations with larger room counts or more advanced needs.”

The announcement went on to say that the Standard tier will be replaced by ‘Microsoft Teams Rooms Basic’, which according to the company, “provides core meeting experiences to customers when they purchase a certified Microsoft Teams Rooms device at no extra cost.”

Microsoft Teams Rooms are flexible video conferencing and collaboration solutions designed to make meetings easier for the age of hybrid work.

Microsoft Teams Rooms systems are quickly taking the world by storm with various deployment options and access to extensive collaborative tools.

Originally known as Skype Rooms, the platform initially intended to bring full audio and video functionality to meeting rooms.

The Register claims that the Basic and Pro licences for Teams Rooms will be available to the public in early September, with current users of the Standard and Premium packages required to take up the new schemes.

Since publishing its article, The Register updated its report to say, “Microsoft has deleted the article on which this story was based but has not requested a correction or retraction.”

At the time of writing, the Microsoft announcement remains hidden from public view, so the changes to Microsoft Teams Rooms remain unconfirmed.
