Google has confirmed that several updates are coming for people who use the Workspace platform on Android devices.

The company aims to make it easier for Android users to see their colleague’s availability and organise content, especially on tablet devices.

In September, Google revealed that it was bringing a variety of games that Android users can play with other participants during meetings.

At the time, Scott Blanksteen, Senior Director, Product Management, Android, commented:

“We recently introduced a new look and updated Google Workspace apps for bigger screens.

“We’re continuing to optimise your favourite Google apps on tablets to make multi-tasking a breeze.”

Out-of-Office Banner

When viewing a person’s information card on Google Voice, Calendar, Gmail, and Chat on an Android device, users can now see their colleague’s status.

An out-of-office banner will be displayed if a user has the setting active and allows other users to see their current availability status.

Google also says that the banner will show when the person is expected to return from their out-of-office period.

Improvements for larger devices

Google claims that it is its mission “to provide a top-class user experience on large screen devices” such as tablets.

The company wants to enhance flexibility by giving users more ways to work with, display and organise their content across Google Workspace for Android.

As part of this, Google is adding link previews into Sheets to give users the context of the content without switching between apps or screens.

Google has confirmed that a graduate rollout started on October 24 and is expected to take around 15 days to complete.

Drag and drop improvements have also been made to the Sheets Android app, as users can now drag, copy, and share charts and in-cell images.
