Cisco has made a host of announcements to its Webex Suite during the WebexOne 2022 event.

Along with updates to the Webex Suite, the company also revealed a new collaboration device and partnerships to help expand its collaboration footprint.

According to Cisco, the innovations have been designed to help customers navigate any challenges they face as offices reopen and give people flexibility over their working patterns.

Jeetu Patel, EVP and GM Cisco Security and Collaboration, commented: “Hybrid work is both different and harder than how we worked before.

“Regardless of job function – frontline worker, knowledge worker, IT admin or contact centre agent – people expect and deserve an amazing experience no matter where or how they work.

“This requires a holistic solution that only Cisco can deliver with its integrated platform across collaboration software, devices, networking and security.”

Reimagined Workspaces

According to Cisco, 98 per cent of meetings will have remote video attendees; however, only 11 per cent of meeting rooms are video enabled.

The company says that home offices and office spaces require video devices to help people collaborate, and this is something that Cisco has focused on during WebexOne 2022.

Microsoft partnership: Cisco has partnered with Microsoft to enable the Microsoft Teams Rooms experience on Cisco devices. The partnership was announced during Microsoft Ignite 2022, with the first Cisco devices expected to be Microsoft certified by early 2023.

New collaboration device: Cisco has announced the Cisco Room Kit EQ, which it claims is one of the industry’s most advanced collaboration device solutions for large workspaces. The device is powered by the Cisco Codec EQ and can enable “true-t0-life” meeting experiences.

Hybrid Workspace Design Guide: Based on its NYC office deployment, Cisco has provided a blueprint to help its customers design hybrid workspaces. The guide uses Cisco’s Smart Building Solutions, collaboration, networking, security technology, and more.

Flexible Workstyles

At WebexOne 2022, Cisco has also focused on allowing its customers to be flexible when adapting to a hybrid working style.

New whiteboard app: Cisco unveiled its new Webex Whiteboard app for its Webex Suite, which gives users a whiteboarding experience regardless of their working location. The app can be accessed from a web browser, the Webex App, or a Cisco device.

Asynchronous video: Cisco introduced its asynchronous video offering Vidcast as part of the Webex Suite last year. The feature is designed to automatically save meeting minutes to allow for better collaboration between colleagues.

Apple partnership: iPhone and iPad users can now share content from its cameras via the Webex Meetings app and annotate what they see with Mobile Camera Share. According to Cisco, it will be the first time customers can benefit from collaboration while using the video capture capabilities of Apple devices.

Calling innovations: Besides integrating Microsoft Teams, Cisco has added Group Call Management for Webex Calling. It is designed to make it easier for businesses to activate informal call centre services to improve their customer calling experience.

Collaboration Security and Manageability

Cisco has acknowledged that hybrid work requires comprehensive security and manageability to ensure IT operations are deployed, optimised, and monitored securely.

Audio watermarking: Cisco has made audio watermarking possible to allow organisations to protect intellectual property better. The watermarks uniquely tag audio streams to every participant and cannot be heard by the human ear.

Webex Control Hub: The platform is now integrated with Cisco Spaces to offer employees information such as real-time occupancy and air quality updates to improve their experience when they come into the office.

Digital coach: The Control Hub offers a digital coach to Webex customers as an in-product feature to reduce the complexity of improving hybrid working. The feature is designed to guide IT admins through the best practice for set-up, adoption quality, and more.
