Avaya made several key announcements at the five-day GITEX 2022 conference in Dubai.

With Metaverse Vision, a collaboration with Honeywell, a partnership with Wavenet, and a new roadmap coming soon, Avaya appears to be going full steam ahead under its new leadership.

GITEX stands for ‘Gulf Information Technology Exhibition’ and it is the biggest annual technology conference held in Dubai. Avaya’s strength in the region has made the event a consistent feature on the technology giant’s schedule.

Avaya’s ‘Metaverse Experience’

Avaya announced it is “executing on Dubai’s metaverse vision” through its ‘Metaverse Experience’, which enables businesses to connect their contact centres into the metaverse.

Although Avaya is not shifting its contact centres into the metaverse yet, it is getting them ready for customers who would prefer to communicate in the metaverse.

The metaverse solution was developed by Avaya in Dubai in collaboration with Avanza.

UC Today’s David Dungay spoke to Nidal Abou-Ltaif, President, Avaya International, about its plans for the metaverse:

About-Ltaif said: “The solution illustrates how organizations can extend their contact centres into the metaverse, leveraging advanced innovations without impacting their existing contact centre investments.

“It demonstrates a use case for opening a business in the UAE within the metaverse, and receiving seamless customer support from a contact centre agent at every step of the journey. This kind of innovation without disruption will help businesses of any size become a part of Dubai’s Metaverse vision.”

Dubai stated its ambition to be in the top ten of cities for the metaverse economy, in order to create 40,000 virtual jobs by 2030.

Avaya and Honeywell Emergency Response Collaboration

Avaya and Honeywell have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to improve the emergency response capabilities of smart city organisations and local law enforcement.

Smart city initiatives will be accelerated through the integration of the Avaya OneCloud platform with the Honeywell City Suite. The combination of platforms will enhance citizen engagement and emergency response potentiality.

Nidal Abou-Ltaif, president, Avaya International, said: “Avaya and Honeywell are helping Middle Eastern cities to deliver the citizen experience of the future.

“In situations where every second counts, having a unified communications environment that capitalises on the availability of critical data can mean the difference between life and death.

“This collaboration will enable us to make these capabilities more widely available to governments across the region.”

UC Today interviewed Mohamed Moselhy, Regional Vertical Sales Leader at Honeywell and Ahmed Fayed, Managing Director at Avaya, about the new collaboration:

The integration is being rolled out in a greenfield smart city outside Cairo, Egypt. This will become the New Administrative Capital, home to the country’s parliament, government ministries, presidential palaces and foreign embassies.

Avaya and Wavenet Partner on Wholesale UCaaS

Avaya announced it has entered into a strategic partnership with Wavenet. Wavenet will become a wholesale service provider and Tier 1 Value-Added Reseller of Avaya’s OneCloud solution in the UK.

The partnership will provide customers with bundled calls and minutes in a combined UCaaS and CCaaS offering.

UC Today’s David Dungay spoke to Anthony Black, Director of Wholesale at Wavenet about the new partnership:

Black said: “Our partners are serving customers in a business environment that has changed significantly over the past couple of years, and against that backdrop, it’s no surprise that demand for cloud-based communications experience technology has increased.

“By offering the combination of the Avaya market leading UCaaS and CCaaS experience technology with Wavenet’s bundled voice plans, we are able to provide the Wholesale Partners with a fully self-service managed platform allowing them to control their customers and more importantly bill directly.”

Wavenet is a managed service provider of telecoms and technology solutions for thousands of businesses across the UK. The company says it already has partnerships with some of the biggest technology providers in the world.

Innovative Roadmap Coming Soon

Avaya announced that it will be introducing its latest roadmap on November 1st.

The company has already shown it is happy to move in new directions with its move into the metaverse, as well as smart cities, law enforcement, and more.

No doubt the company will be looking to avoid some of the pitfalls of the past that led to its financial woes of late and some within the Avaya inner circle may see themselves in a ‘change or die’ position.

Just how far they are willing to pivot from their familiar product offerings is yet to be seen.

UC Today spoke with Todd Zerbe, SVP, Engineering, Avaya about its future roadmap:

Zerbe said: “I think we have got a lot of really great things on our roadmap; we’ve already been doing a lot with digital, but really expanding out that social media aspects of our platform.

“We have got some really interesting things coming in terms of customer journey and some of our analytics.

“There is a lot to get into in a short time here, but I think there is some really exciting stuff for Avaya right now.”
