Pexip has updated its Room Connector to enable Google Meet users to join calls using third-party video conferencing systems.

The new feature allows businesses to add Google Meet interoperability to all their meeting rooms, including content sharing between users and dual-screen support.

Google Meet guests can now join meetings using the Room Connector, even if the meeting host has not enabled Pexip interoperability. Previously, interoperability was only available if the host had given permission for guests to access its full range of functionality.

Trond Johannessen, CEO of Pexip, said: “We aim to power trusted connections between people and technology, and that means helping users connect to other systems with the full video calling experience.

“We see Pexip’s Google Meet feature as a way to connect to Meet from third-party video conferencing devices, ensuring that you can use the equipment you already have in your meeting room and give everyone the same high-quality meeting experience from the device of your choice.”

Pexip’s Enterprise Room Connector (ERC) is compatible with all endpoints, including old video conferencing systems, due to its in-built transcoding engine. Endpoint compatibility includes Cisco, Logitech, Polycom, Tandberg, and other systems that support session initiation protocol (SIP).

Pexip One-Touch Join calendar integration can be automatically enabled by users, letting them invite a ‘meeting room’ to Google Meet meetings. Subsequently, the join button will appear on the room’s touch controller, providing an easy joining experience.

The Microsoft Teams ERC solution can also be used to join Google Meet meetings, as well as Teams meetings from their current video conferencing system.

Dave Citron, Senior Director of Product Management at Google Workspace, said: “The Room Connector from Pexip not only enhances Google Meet availability, it also helps provide users a high-quality, engaging, and easy-to-join meeting experience, no matter which meeting device is used.

“In addition, the meeting experience has also recently been enhanced with Google Meet’s denoising technology.”

The Pexip ERC uses AI-driven technology, works with all devices, offers customisation options, and provides a seamless join experience across Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, and Skype for Business.

As well as improving user experience, the ERC gives IT teams full control over meeting and calendar data and removes user dependency on IT staff.

Pexip is a video communication platform designed for large enterprises and public sector organisations. Its solution is sold by over 300 channel partners in 75 countries, and it is used in 190 countries.

Pexip recently took part in a UC Today round table, discussing Microsoft Teams management in multi-vendor environments.

In February, the company announced that it had been hampered by a slow return to office work following a major EBITDA loss for the year.
