What’s New at Workplace? November 2022 Update

Workplace from Meta has announced new products and feature releases for November.

This month’s releases include video chapters on mobile, improved insights for Knowledge Library, quick link translations in Knowledge Library, enhanced focus behaviour on comments, posts, and notifications, group membership rules for all groups, in-person locations for virtual events, and shake your phone to report bugs.

The online collaboration software tool, Workplace from Meta, provides monthly updates of its latest innovations.

Knowledge Library Updates

Workspace from Meta had added improved insights for the Knowledge Library, which include allowing admins and category editors to view the numbers of people who have visited, reacted to, and commented on their category over a specific time period. Filters can be applied for location, department, and job title. The number of files viewed and downloaded can also be seen. These insights upgrades are available on the Workplace desktop web version.

Users can now set different hyperlinks and titles for different languages when adding quick links to the Knowledge Library homepage. This makes it easier for users to find the right resources. When adding another language, admins can choose to enter it manually or opt for it to be generated automatically for languages which are supported. Quick link translations are available on Workplace’s desktop web version.

Video Chapters on Mobile

Video chapters allow you to add sections to videos, making it easier for viewers to skip to the relevant parts and share the highlights with colleagues. Chapters can be added to videos uploaded into Workplace or live video recordings. This feature is now available for iOS and Android devices.

Enhanced Focus Behaviour

When a user selects a notification, the focus switches to the comment or post related to the notification, which improves notification accessibility and experience for those using keyboards. Previously, notifications selected using keyboards displayed related content in the feed and scrolled in view but did not include the main item. This feature is only available on the Workplace web version.

Group Membership Rules for All Groups

Group admins are now able to set group membership rules for all of their groups and admins can use the People Sets feature to assign people to groups with chat. Previously, group membership rules could not be applied to groups with chats attached. Group membership rules can only be used on the Workplace desktop web version.

In-Person Locations for Virtual Events

In-person locations can now be added to virtual events, creating greater attendance option flexibility with hybrid events. The new hybrid events toggle enables users to easily create events with in-person or online location details through the Workplace event creation flow.

Shake your Phone to Report Bugs

Users are now able to shake their phones, as opposed to working through multiple steps in settings, to submit a bug report. This feature is available in Workplace iOS and Android, and it will be launched in Work Chat iOS and Android.

Last week, Meta announced 11,000 of its employees were being laid off. This figure translates to roughly 13 per cent of its workforce and nearly three times the number of Twitter layoffs on November 4.

Mark Zuckerberg, Founder and CEO of Meta, provided an explanation to employees: “At the start of Covid, the world rapidly moved online and the surge of e-commerce led to outsized revenue growth.

“Many people predicted this would be a permanent acceleration that would continue even after the pandemic ended. I did too, so I made the decision to significantly increase our investments. Unfortunately, this did not play out the way I expected.

“Not only has online commerce returned to prior trends, but the macroeconomic downturn, increased competition, and ads signal loss have caused our revenue to be much lower than I’d expected. I got this wrong, and I take responsibility for that.

Highlights of Workplace from Meta’s releases last month included knowledge library and support ticket updates, email customisations, files and media tab, login settings access, and focussed content notifications.

Workplace from Meta is an all-in-one business communication platform which combines a company’s intranet and tools with video, chat, and groups.
