Video-conferencing firm Webex by Cisco’s Vice President and Chief Design Officer Travis Isaacs, states it will bet on interoperability for meetings in 2023 and beyond.

In a video interview as part of the UC Trends series, Isaacs says:

“When we talk to our customers, a majority of them use multiple tools and multiple providers for meetings calling and messaging, so we’re taking a position that interoperability and being compatible is better for our customers, and we will continue to invest in that area.”

The video also contains Isaacs talking about his background and answering a range of quickfire questions. The main topic is meetings, and it is put to Isaacs that sessions will experience more evolution in 2023 as the long-term hybrid strategies we are seeing businesses deploy take shape. Isaacs responds: “In general, with hybrid I think our customers are still figuring out what that means for them.

“Early pandemic and post-pandemic, I think the definition of hybrid was people who occasionally came into the office but mostly worked from home.

Isaacs adds, “We’re seeing a lot different Behavior changes uh there, and it’s not so much how and when my employees will come back and work in a hybrid scenario. It’s what scenarios or occasions or jobs to be done.”

“We’re thinking about things like ‘how do we enable those workflows’? And ‘how do we create a sense of place and time and location?’ for companies, as they’re experimenting and figuring out what hybrid means to them.”
Asked about Webex by Cisco’s standout moments for the past year, Isaacs enthuses: “The big thing that we’re really excited about on my team is our continued global expansion in calling. We’re available in over 90 countries, and we’re continuing to see growth.”
