It’s becoming increasingly important for service providers to have a bring-your-own-carrier offering (BYOC) in their arsenal as more and more businesses adopt UCaaS.

However, while these solutions make it relatively easy for organisations to bring their preferred carrier to their UC platform, the work required of service providers behind the scenes to set up their solution can be taxing.

Initiatives like Cloud Connect for Webex Calling are streamlining BYOC for both enterprises and service providers. Still, even these require a great deal of work from the carrier to get things off the ground.

This is where Carrier Automate excels, developed in partnership between Dstny and Ribbon Communications, it delivers certified infrastructure, and is an enablement provider on the Webex Calling Enablement Program. The programme is designed to pair carriers with a partner that can help them through the complex accreditation process, which involves connecting their service to Cisco’s network.

Speaking to UC Today, Neil Greenwood, Chief Product Officer at Dstny Automate, said Dstny can slash the approval process from six to 12 months to a matter of weeks.

Carrier Automate can do this because it has put its technology through the accreditation process on behalf of the carrier and acts as the front end into the Webex platform for them. This includes the automation and integrations that can typically make the process hard for carriers to do themselves.

“We shield the operator from the complexities of Webex, ” Greenwood said.

“It’s a difficult process for the carriers; it takes a long time, and there are stringent integration and automation requirements.

“Even when you’ve done this, it needs maintaining and keeping up to date with any changes made on the UCaaS side. So, we do API normalisation and SIP trunk normalisation, which eases the burden on the carrier, gives them a quicker go-to-market and reduces their operational overhead.”

Cisco Potential

From a Webex perspective, one of the biggest benefits for service providers is the huge base of customers that are still operating on-premises technology, Greenwood explained.

“Many operators have customers with an embedded Cisco Unified Call Manager estate,” he said.

“A lot of those enterprises are looking to retire those assets and move to the cloud, so it’s important for service providers to give them options.

“If a service provider only has one BYOC programme and the enterprise doesn’t want to go with it, there’s a massive risk of churn.”

Alongside the new focus on Webex, Carrier Automate is also helping service providers build the same integration with Zoom’s platform through the Zoom Phone Provider Exchange and is also an accredited as a Microsoft Operator Connect accelerator partner.
