Microsoft Loop Copilot features are on their way, and they’re set to transform how companies manage productivity, collaboration, and project planning.
Since Microsoft introduced Copilot, its generative AI innovation, built in collaboration with Open AI, the number of use cases for the solution has been growing. Microsoft has introduced Copilot functionality to everything from Microsoft Office apps to Teams.
In March, the tech giants revealed they’d also be bringing Copilot functionality into the Microsoft “Loop” app to help reinvent how modern teams collaborate.
With Microsoft Loop Copilot capabilities, companies can draft plans, generate ideas, organize information, and create lists faster and more efficiently than ever.
Here’s what users can expect from Copilot in Loop.
What is Microsoft Loop? Empowering Collaboration
Microsoft Loop, announced in March 2023, is one of the most recent apps from Microsoft, designed to help teams create, plan, and collaborate like never before. According to Microsoft, the solution was developed based on feedback from Microsoft users.
Even with access to a vast range of tools for collaboration and communication, many teams are still struggling to work in tandem in today’s complex workplace. The Microsoft Loop solution aims to solve the challenges of omnichannel collaboration by helping users to co-create and innovate across various tools and devices.
The Loop app consists of three core functions: pages, workspaces, and components:
- Loop components: Functional application chunks (components), such as lists, text, or tables, were introduced by Microsoft for Teams in 2022. The Loop app extends the functionality of components into Outlook and Word online. This allows users to update information in various places, with dynamic updates for all users.
- Pages: Pages in Loop are documents structured with various components and hierarchical headings, text, and links. Loop offers templates to help users quickly dive into project management, brainstorming, decision-making, and other tasks. Pages are also searchable, sharable, and embeddable within all Microsoft apps.
- Loop workspaces: Workspaces are collections of pages that provide users with a single point of reference for information and tools. Users in workspaces can organize pages by dragging names in the sidebar and creating sub-pages for each document.
With the introduction of Microsoft Loop copilot features, Microsoft also introduced “Experiments,” a new tab within Loop Settings, offering access to AI capabilities.
Microsoft Loop Copilot Features
Copilot in Loop brings the latest generative AI capabilities from Microsoft into the Loop experience. The Copilot functionality allows users to extract useful information from the Loop ecosystem and create a variety of outputs from data held in workspaces and pages.
With Microsoft Loop Copilot capabilities, users can summarize Loop page content, as well as the content of documents in the workspace. There are prompts available to give users a starting point to work with, such as “create,” “brainstorm,” “describe,” or “blueprint.”
Plus, users can also type their custom prompts using natural language. According to Microsoft, the primary purpose of Copilot in Loop is to help accelerate productivity. Copilot will help to inspire and guide Loop users, to guide them rapidly toward their goals.
Plus, because Copilot will be embedded directly into Loop, users can collaborate on everything the AI assistant creates in real-time. According to Microsoft’s initial testing group participants, the ability to continue working with Copilot after it makes initial text for a collaborative session is a huge benefit.
Copilot can change the tone, format, and content of a document on behalf of users. Plus, there’s a history feature for rewinding and exploring content without losing work.
How to Use Copilot in Loop
Like many of the new Copilot-focused capabilities in the Microsoft ecosystem, Loop AI features are currently only available for some. Microsoft released the solution in beta mode to North American and English-only audiences.
To access the features, users will need to “opt-in” to the Copilot beta and enable access to the AI solution in their applications. Once enabled, users can visit the “Settings and More” button at the top right of the page and click “Experiments.”
Here, they can turn the Copilot setting on or off. Once Copilot is switched on, users can add a “Copilot component” to any environment by typing “/” on the Loop canvas.
Microsoft says users will be able to use the Copilot solution in Loop to:
- Create and edit new content: Copilot can help users draft newsletters, documents, or lists of ideas. You can edit and tweak any content created with your voice and elements.
- Blueprint a plan: Copilot can outline “next steps” for a business plan, acting as a foundation teams can use to power their strategy.
- Play with tone: With Microsoft Loop Copilot features, users can sample various “tones” to rephrase content based on intent and purpose.
The Microsoft Jumpstart Workspace
Along with new Copilot features in Loop, Microsoft also announced the arrival of its new “Jumpstart” capability. According to the Microsoft team, Jumpstart helps users set the foundations to get a project rolling. Using AI-powered suggestions, it helps users curate and collect crucial materials from locations like SharePoint or OneDrive.
Based on the name of the Workspace created, Microsoft’s AI solution immediately surfaces an initial set of valuable files. Users can then give Loop additional context and information with keywords. From there, you only need to filter through the result tabs and select all the files you want to add to your Workspace.
Microsoft hopes this functionality will empower users to make connections beyond possible with a simple file search. Jumpstart can bring all kinds of materials into a workspace, adding to the inspiration and creativity of teams.
Enterprise users can opt-in to the “Jumpstart” feature using the “Experiments” tab on Microsoft Loop. After opting in, just hit the “Add new workspace” button on the main Loop landing page to dive in.
Looking Ahead with Microsoft Loop and Copilot
In the last few months, Microsoft has introduced a range of new ways for business leaders and teams to take advantage of generative AI in their collaborative sessions. With Microsoft Loop Copilot features, Microsoft is diving even deeper into this space.
The company aims to improve how teams communicate and collaborate and how they operate together in a new age of remote and hybrid work. Loop’s Copilot features should simplify the process of project management, brainstorming, and problem-solving for teams.
