Virtual care vendor AvaSure has integrated Ouva’s AI-powered patient monitoring capabilities into its AvaSure Telesitter platform.

AvaSure is a market leader in video-based virtual sitting and virtual nursing solutions, catering to systems with nursing and staffing shortages that might have to reduce costs without compromising patient health outcomes. Its partnership with Ouva’s AI-powered healthcare technology empowers the Telesitter platform to deliver next-gen care optimisation and patient observation.

The collaboration combines both companies’ tech in which Ouva’s AI platform-in-the-cloud monitors bedside activity through AvaSure’s virtual care and safety devices. The integration produces real-time insights and alerts without needing further hardware installations at the bedside.

Adam McMullin, CEO at Avasure, said:

AvaSure is excited to partner with Ouva to enable AI-powered patient observation. Our partnership signifies another bold step towards leveraging AI, redefining how we ensure the well-being of those under our care. Through this collaboration, we are not only embracing cutting-edge technology but also reaffirming our commitment to enhancing patient outcomes and experiences with AvaSure’s open ecosystem.”

This enables healthcare providers to quickly deploy AI capabilities into their tech stack, offering these providers a more streamlined and efficient monitoring process to reduce patient falls and elopements.

“Together, AvaSure and Ouva are pioneering a new era of healthcare, where precision meets compassion and where the virtual realm becomes an extension of our unwavering dedication to the health and safety of every individual,” McMullin added.

What Does the AvaSure Telesitter Now Offer Customers?

With Ouva’s AI integration, the AvaSure Telesitter can guide observers and produce additional insights. Ouva’s AI-powered alerts are messaged directly within the AvaSure platform, directing observer attention to where it’s needed most.

For hospitals experiencing a staff shortage, which can result in patients being placed on observation waitlists, Ouva’s AI extends the monitoring capabilities. This can support the ambition of having no patients going unmonitored.

The integration ensures yet another AI-powered offering from AvaSure, expanding an open ecosystem of smart integrations for customers. Other AI-powered features include fall risk decision support and fall and elopement detection.

“We are incredibly excited about this partnership with AvaSure, which represents a significant leap forward in virtual patient care,” commented Dogan Demir, CEO at Ouva.

“Integrating Ouva’s AI solutions with AvaSure’s TeleSitter is more than just technological synergy — it’s a testament to our shared vision of redefining patient monitoring. With this collaboration, we’re bringing forward a solution that’s seamless, intelligent, and, most importantly, eases the stress put on the healthcare system due to staffing shortages.”

UC and Collaboration’s Impact on Healthcare in 2023

AvaSure and Ouva are naturally specialists in producing innovative UC and collaboration solutions tailored for healthcare providers. Still, generalist vendors have also designed or collaborated on offerings or features to help healthcare organisations this year.

In the spring, Microsoft showcased new Teams solutions to support healthcare workers at HIMSS23.

At the HIMSS Global Health Conference and Exhibition, Microsoft demonstrated a range of innovations devised for improving productivity and streamlining the workflows of healthcare staff. These features encompassed a Virtual Appointments app, a tailored Teams homepage with centralised access for frontline workers, and shared use of Android devices across frontline teams.

The Virtual Appointments in Teams app is now generally available, simplifying and customising clinicians’ workflows so they can focus on the end-to-end appointment experience. This includes sending text reminders to patients and enabling them to join custom-branded virtual appointments without downloading Teams. Another update is appointment queues, which manage scheduled and on-demand appointments in one location.

This summer, NEC launched innovative healthcare integrations for its UNIVERGE BLUE ENGAGE contact centre solution.

UNIVERGE BLUE ENGAGE is now compatible with multiple leading healthcare systems, including Epic, ORACLE Cerner and MEDITECH. This update allows healthcare providers to reduce costs, optimise operational efficiencies, quicken access to critical patient information and provide excellent patient care through automated and self-service functionalities.

UC Today also spoke to the CTO for two Canadian hospitals in April,  Shival Seth, CTO for Grand River and St. Mary’s hospitals, who called for more cross-collaboration between platforms to make managing a tech stack as a healthcare provider more efficient.

“I would like to challenge the vendors around their view of actually integrating everything on a single pane of glass,” Seth said. “I think the great thing that has happened through the evolution of technology over the past five or ten years is that the capability exists. There are bits and bytes of software integrations and bits and bytes of overall functionality or feature sets available.”
