Mitel has appointed Sophie Ames as its new EVP and head of human resources operations in more than 30 countries.

Her official title at Mitel will be Employee Value Proposition (EVP) and Chief People Officer (CPO), which also secures her a position in the company’s c-suite.

As such, Ames will also be responsible for creating and implementing new initiatives, attracting and securing talent, promoting positive employee experiences, and aligning individual working goals with the company’s overall strategy.

Tarun Loomba, Mitel President and Chief Executive Officer, commented on the new appointment: “For 50 years, the ingenuity and dedication of Mitel employees have produced award-winning solutions and programs which have earned the trust of millions of customers, empowered our partners, and made Mitel a leader in the communications space.

“As we move into Mitel’s next chapter, our people continue to be our most important asset and the key to our future success.

Loomba continued:

“Sophie’s global experience, knowledge of the technology market, and passion for talent development will help Mitel strengthen our culture of excellence as we focus on accelerating growth.”

Ames brings with her 25 years of HR experience in the technology sector, as well as an “innovative and modern” approach to HR and operational leadership.

She has “extensive experience” in mergers and acquisitions and growing global cultures.

Ames most recently served as SVP and Chief Human Resources Officer at ServiceMax where she launched a people strategy and brought HR and company objectives closer together.

Before that, she was the SVP and Chief Human Resources Officer at Veritas Technologies, where she led a transformation in talent acquisition, performance management, employee engagement and development, DEI programs, and more.

She has also held senior leadership positions in HR, sales enablement, and field operations at Avaya, and HR positions at AMDOCS, Thomson Legal and Regulatory, and Berlitz International.

Sophie Ames, EVP and Chief People Officer at Mitel, expressed her eagerness to take on the new role: “With digital transformation and shifting workforce trends affecting how employees connect, collaborate and communicate with each other and with their customers, Mitel’s value proposition has never been more relevant,”

“I am truly excited to join a company whose brand and reputation is synonymous with integrity, innovation, and customer-centricity and look forward to building a compelling employee experience for our global employee base as Mitel expands its scale across the world.”

Mitel, which describes itself as a “global market leader in business communications”, enables over two billion business connections and helps businesses and service providers to connect with and offer services to their customers.

The company’s innovation and communication experts reportedly serve business users across more than 100 countries.

Earlier this month, Mitel launched a wave of next-generation DECT handsets, designed for healthcare, hospitality, education, and retail.

The 700d series includes four DECT devices that are designed to solve various user requirements and meet comms needs for organisations in diverse industries.

In May this year, UC Today explored why Mitel’s partnership with RingCentral has been so successful.

The partnership has included RingCentral and Mitel launching the first certified devices of their partnership and CEO Vlad Schmunis announcing that RingCentral had enjoyed early Mitel migration success.
