Mitel Announces New COO and Head of M&A

Mitel has appointed Charles-Henry Duroyan as its new Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Head of Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A).

Duroyon will manage Mitel’s global business operations, supply chain, and data privacy office. He will also oversee the business’s strategic planning and M&A initiatives.

Following Mitel’s recent acquisition of Unify and its ambitions of further market share expansion, Duroyon’s remit will cover creating operational strategies that support company growth initiatives and optimise organisational efficiency while maintaining quality, compliance, and accountability in key business metrics.

Duroyan commented:

With the recent addition of Unify, Mitel has demonstrated a clear commitment to the communications space and laid a path for an exciting future. I look forward to working with this talented team to ensure customers continue to have exceptional experiences with Mitel solutions and services for many years to come.”

Duroyon’s CV includes an extensive knowledge of international markets from previous leadership roles as Chief Human Resources Officer, COO, and Chief Executive Officer in various industries. As Senior Vice President at Atos Tech Foundation, he oversaw corporate development and transformation efforts, such as chairing the sale of Unify to Mitel, which concluded in September 2023.

Before overseeing Unify’s sale to Mitel, Duroyon served as Global COO of Unify, where he was accountable for supply chain, IT, quality, performance excellence, cloud partnerships, and strategic planning. Before that role at Unify, Duroyan was CEO of Fastviewer, a cloud company that specialised in remote support and web collaboration. Duroyon led the company to a successful sale. Before Fastviewer, Doryon’s career involved important roles at Atos, Faurecia, and Taleo.

“Operational excellence is central to Mitel’s growth strategy, and the addition of a senior operations leader to our executive team reflects that focus,” added Tarun Loomba, Mitel’s President and Chief Executive Officer. “In addition to his deep knowledge of the Unify business, Charles-Henry brings significant experience leading organisations through transformation and a well-developed global perspective that will help Mitel accelerate current priorities and build a foundation for long-term success.”

Mitel’s Unify Acquisition

In September, Mitel closed on its transaction to acquire Atos’s UC and collaboration business Unify to strengthen its UC and collaboration offerings — the sale that Duroyon chaired.

The acquisition illustrated the combined company’s position as a global leader in UC and collaboration. Following the transaction, Mitel said it commanded the number two position in global market share for enterprise UC. Mitel also stated that the deal increased regional leadership with a number one position in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) and more than ten individual countries.

Mitel said Unify’s addition to the fold strengthened its position as the global market leader in multi-cell Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications (DECT), reinforcing its market-leading position in EMEA, Latin America, and 19 countries.

“This is a transformative milestone for the Mitel and Unify teams and for the broader communication and collaboration industry,” Loomba said at the time. “Unify brings a strong geographic footprint, rich portfolio, deep enterprise expertise, and talented team that perfectly complement Mitel’s strengths.”

The combined company showcased a collective customer overore than 75 million users across over 100 countries. It also represents an expanded network of over 5,500 resellers, service providers, technology, and strategic alliance partners to support organisations’ digital transformations and modernise their communications infrastructure.

Mitel said it planned to ensure continuity for customers and partners — that Mitel and Unify customers could expect the same offerings and services they enjoyed previously without disruption. Resellers and strategic technology partners were also assured of minimal disruption, with Mitel informing partners to expect “little to no” change this year.
