Microsoft Launches OneDrive for Teams App
Microsoft is launching the OneDrive for Teams app to enhance collaboration and productivity.
The OneDrive for Teams app will replace the Teams Files app and will roll out for the new Teams client this December. The new updates to OneDrive in Teams will roll out to classic Teams in early 2024, but the Files app name will be unchanged in that circumstance. There is also no update to the Files app on Teams mobile.
Noga Ronen, Senior Product Marketing Manager at Microsoft, said in an accompanying blog:
The OneDrive app will soon replace the Files app in Teams, giving you consistent and familiar file management experience across all of Microsoft 365. The new OneDrive app takes advantage of all the recent updates made to OneDrive and SharePoint library experiences, bringing you the benefits of performance improvements, new views, and feature enhancements in OneDrive.”
The updated OneDrive app consolidates files, Loops, dashboards, and design boards from Microsoft 365 into a unified workspace, and new Teams users will notice that the OneDrive app now appears in place of the Files app in the left-hand navigation.
In other Teams news, the platform is introducing the functionality to tag entire groups of colleagues with one click in private and shared channels, enhancing collaboration.
While Teams allows tagging users in channels or meetings, it currently lacks the capability to tag and mention groups, leading to individual tagging for department meetings. This new functionality means introducing entire departments in Teams discussions and meetings is easier as all members of the tagged group can participate in and view the conversation. This will make collaboration and interaction between leaders, employees and coworkers more effective and easy.
The functionality will be previewed next February, with a general rollout planned for March. It will initially be released for the desktop version of Teams, with the web iteration coming later.
Logitech Sight Camera Certified for Teams and Zoom Rooms
Logitech‘s Sight AI camera has been certified for Microsoft Teams and Zoom Rooms.
Logitech Sight is an AI-powered companion camera with intelligent multi-participant framing. It is the first intelligent camera to be certified by Teams as a centre-of-table device that complements front-of-room video bars. It is also the first Panoramic Camera to be certified for Zoom Rooms.
“We know that the AI-driven audio and video features are great, but also recognize that IT leaders are having to outfit increasingly complex room configurations,” said Prakash Arukundrum, Chief Operating Officer at Logitech. “Sight is now shipping to customers who’ve been looking for a solution that not only improves meeting equity, but is easy to set up and now certified with the video calling platforms people use every day.”
Streamlined management is managed via Logitech Sync, a complimentary software that enables device monitoring, updates, and troubleshooting through a cloud-based interface. Logitech Sight is backwards compatible with Rally Bar and Rally Bar Mini, allowing IT teams the confidence to seamlessly integrate this new technology with their current video bars.
Logitech Sight is available globally with an MSRP of $1,999 via authorized distributors and the Logitech website.
