Disrupting operations can create a dilemma.
On one hand, significant investment in a new strategy can unlock new ways of working and drive increased productivity. On the other, it can pile on problematic financial and operational pressure.
Communication technology – procured either directly or via a Managed Service Provider – is the perfect case in point: continually-evolving functionality hard for a business to resist, and yet a root-and-branch modernisation too disruptive to consider.
Consequently, when an opportunity arises to somehow plot a path between both extremes, it still does not guarantee an easy decision.
Take the migration of legacy Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications (DECT) to a brilliantly-transformative UCaaS or IP-DECT infrastructure. In terms of enabling game-changing collaboration, mobility, and efficiency, it is a no-brainer step for any business to take, and yet expensive re-cabling (and the often-required halt in operation) often prohibits progress.
That is, until now.
New, cost-effective ways of capitalising on such a move now exist – all businesses must do is partner with a provider or system integrator able to make it happen.
“As more and more businesses realize they need to provide workers with access to modern collaboration and productivity tools such as Microsoft Teams, the need to update existing DECT in-building mobility systems has become pressing,” says Paul Rowe, Senior Product Manager at leading enterprise mobility enabler Spectralink Corporation, which has just launched its IP DECT Gateway solution that enables a seamless and hassle-free transition from the old to the new.
“Research shows that one in seven DECT-dependent healthcare, manufacturing and other industrial businesses will still be using their legacy cabling in 2025, restricting their ability to reap the benefits that IP technology brings to the workplace. This is especially important considering the PSTN sunset and move to all IP-networks forcing businesses to move from legacy phone systems to IP-based solutions.
The new Spectralink IP DECT Gateway helps those businesses migrate to UCaaS or IP-DECT without re-cabling. It presents huge opportunities for all involved and we’re excited to see everyone take maximum advantage.”
In addition to disruption caused by re-cabling, legacy DECT transition to modern UCaaS and IP-DECT solutions also used to require specialist engineers and a total production shut-down to enable strip and fit out.
In contrast, the Spectralink solution enables a seamless transition across multiple sites in one deployment and without expensive and lengthy disruption.
Crucially, too, if the legacy investment included Spectralink base stations and handsets, they can be preserved and will continue to be fully-functional post-deployment. This not only significantly reduces the total cost of modernisation, it also ensures workers continue to experience the benefits of Spectralink’s range of rugged and durable devices that they have come to rely upon.
“It’s about understanding the needs of businesses and their ability from a financial perspective to embrace technological change,” says Rowe.
“Modernising communication has multiple benefits and yet cost can be a blocker. Our IP DECT Gateway enables organisations to navigate around those cost and operational issues and is a powerful example of how we have been transforming the way our customers work and communicate for the last 30 years.
“Through our determination to do extraordinary things, we enable mobile workforces and empower our customers and partners to explore what’s next and what’s possible.”
