Cisco Webex Apple Vision Pro App is Now Available

Cisco has launched a Webex app for the Apple Vision Pro.

Celebrated at this week’s Cisco Live in Amsterdam, the Webex app is now available on the App Store for visionOS, with Jeetu Patel, Cisco’s Executive Vice President and General Manager of Security and Collaboration, describing the device as “one of the most consequential devices of our times” during Cisco Live’s keynote.

It allows users to engage in immersive meetings through Apple’s spatial computing device. Webex joined Microsoft Teams and Zoom as part of the Vision Pro’s app library upon its launch last Friday, February 2.

Javed Khan, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Cisco Collaboration, wrote in an accompanying blog:

We are thrilled to announce in our keynote today at Cisco Live in Amsterdam that the new Webex app, exclusively designed for Apple Vision Pro, is now available on the App Store for visionOS. It allows for an immersive and intuitive meeting experience that fills the space around you and utilizes eyes, hands, and voice, as well as Personas and Spatial Audio for the ultimate and natural experience using Apple Vision Pro.”

As well as the Webex app for the Apple Vision Pro, Cisco also announced that Webex for Apple TV 4K is generally available.

Webex on Vision Pro’s Feature Set

The Webex for Apple Vision Pro seamlessly integrates Webex meetings with Apple Vision Pro’s intuitive features. Users can arrange participant videos and shared content windows with pinch and drag gestures, scaling dynamically. They can also capture natural facial and hand movements for lifelike representation within the virtual space, fostering deeper connections.

Webex for Apple Vision Pro also includes AI background noise removal, real-time translations, closed captions, live polling, and Q&A by Slido. This allows participants to stay focused on the essence of meetings. Whether on the move or stationary, users can transition meetings between Apple Vision Pro and their Mac or iPhone by tapping the join button within the Webex app. Additionally, calendar integration enables simple access to upcoming meetings, which are joinable with a pinch gesture.

What Else Has Cisco Been Up To Recently?

Cisco Live this week also entailed the vendor unveiling a swathe of AI Assistant features now generally available for Webex Suite and Contact Center customers.

The features encompass automatic meeting and vidcast summaries and automatic translation. These capabilities were previously exclusive to Cisco employees or selected organisations but are now available to all Webex Suite and Contact Center customers. Cisco also revealed an intriguing sustainability tool for organisations — Low Carbon Mode. Control Hub’s Low Carbon Mode offers location-based insights to manage energy consumption when low-carbon energy is unavailable.

Last week, Cisco, Microsoft and Samsung jointly revealed a set of meeting room services at ISE 2024.

The combined room kits entail Cisco devices powered by its RoomOS software and integrated with Samsung smart signage displays featuring Microsoft Teams with Front Row. The ambition of the collaboration is to integrate video collaboration services into the Cisco Room Series. These solutions include Front Row, an inclusive content layout designed explicitly for Microsoft Teams Rooms.

In January, Cisco and the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) launched a shared research initiative on digital well-being.

Cisco and the OECD’s Centre on Well-being, Inclusion, Sustainability and Equal Opportunity (WISE) are collaborating to examine the consequences of digital transformation and its “role as both a catalyst for progress and a source of potential risks to well-being”.

The initiative was prompted by the swift speed of digital transformation in recent years and the emergence of AI competency, which Cisco and the OECD say “merit a global discussion on how people experience technological change”.

Teams and Zoom on Vision Pro

Microsoft Teams and 365 apps are now part of Apple’s Vision Pro spatial computing service.

As well as critical Teams capabilities such as video conferencing, file sharing and chat, Teams leverages the advanced features of Apple Vision Pro to improve user experiences on video calls, including Personas, infinite canvas for collaboration, and interactive chats powered by emojis and reactions.

Meanwhile, Zoom’s app for Apple Vision Pro intends to provide an excellent meeting experience by seamlessly merging video conferencing with users’ physical spaces, effectively erasing the boundaries between in-person and remote interactions.
