Microsoft Introduces Video Clips and New Presenter Tools To Teams

Microsoft is adding several compelling new capabilities to Teams, including video clips and new presenter tools.

Teams users will soon be able to post video clips of themselves in channels to complement standard chat messaging. Users will be able to record a video or audio clip of themselves or a video of their screen before being able to attach the clip to a channel post.

The feature is scheduled to roll out in April and will be available for Desktop, Mac, iOS and Android platforms.

The official 365 Roadmap wrote:

You can now use Teams video clip in channel, in addition to chat. Record yourself, your screen, or an audio-only clip and attach the video clip to your channel post or reply.”

New Presenter Tools

More new tools coming to Teams in April are enhancements for presenters.

Presenters can now smoothly monitor participant activity during meetings when sharing their screen or content. The Enhanced Presenter Window creates a convenient overview, displaying up to four active participants with video and audio capabilities and indicators for raised hands.

Additionally, presenters can preview the shared content within the same interface. To ensure seamless communication, meeting notifications are prominently displayed in the centre of the screen for improved visibility.

“This gives presenters increased confidence and awareness of what is happening among participants during a meeting,” the roadmap for the feature details.

This capability will launch for PC and Mac Teams users.

What’s Been Happening With Teams in February?

This month began with confirmation that Microsoft Teams and 365 apps arrived on Apple’s Vision Pro spatial computing service.

In addition to central Teams functionalities such as video conferencing, file sharing, and chat, Teams leverages the advanced capabilities of Apple Vision Pro to elevate user experiences during video calls. This includes innovative features like Personas, an infinite canvas for collaboration, and interactive chats enhanced by emojis and reactions.

Microsoft also introduced a new feature to allow Teams chat in the new Outlook for Windows app.

In meetings organised through Outlook or Teams, where Teams serves as the meeting platform, participants can chat in real-time directly within Outlook. Users can start meeting chats from various entry points, including calendar peek, meeting details, context menu, My Day, and reminders.

Additionally, Microsoft launched the Human Resources app for Teams in public preview, designed for annual leave request management.

The Human Resources app integrates seamlessly with Dynamics 365 Human Resources on Finance and Operations environments, providing organisations with a streamlined solution for employees to request, edit, and cancel time off and leave of absence requests effortlessly.

Lastly, Microsoft also revealed plans to update Teams on Windows and Mac to support every version of a Teams account within one desktop app. Regular Microsoft and Teams users may know that Teams accounts span work, school, and personal clients. Microsoft aims to merge these into one desktop app, reducing the need for multiple versions.
