Zoom has announced that its AI Companion productivity assistant now automatically detects supported languages when producing meeting summaries.
To support multilingual teams in collaborating and communicating more dynamically across the Zoom platform, the new language capabilities for AI Companion also extend to nine languages for Team Chat and 36 languages (in preview) for in-meeting features.
Mahesh Ram, Head of AI at Zoom, commented:
Global teams need AI that can work across languages. If you’re using AI to help improve collaboration and productivity, it’s critical that your AI supports a multitude of languages used by your global teams. For us at Zoom, this was a no-brainer. Making sure global teams can connect and work together more effectively is what we are all about.”
The language update was prompted by Zoom’s recognition that fostering inclusivity through technology is critical in today’s globalised business landscape. With Zoom expanding language support across its platform, global teams can now connect and collaborate more efficiently.
More Details on the Language Support Capabilities
Team Chat facilitates asynchronous communication among colleagues, streamlining workplace interactions across the Zoom platform. With AI Companion now supporting nine languages — English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Simplified Chinese, Chinese (Traditional), and Japanese — users communicating in these languages can leverage AI Companion to compose chats and summarise chat threads.
Zoom also highlights that additional languages will be available soon.
The language support for both AI Companion meeting summaries and in-meeting question capabilities has been expanded to encompass 36 languages (currently in preview). This enhancement empowers global teams to streamline collaboration and communication effectively.
Furthermore, AI Companion now automatically detects supported languages spoken during meetings and generates a meeting summary in the primarily spoken language. This means multilingual users no longer need to remember to set the primary meeting language prior to the call to receive a comprehensive meeting summary.
Zoom’s Positive Quarter and Financial Year Underpinned By Early AI Companion Successes
This week, in its Q4 FY 24 earnings call, Zoom reported that its AI Companion productivity assistant has had over 500,000 accounts enabled within five months of launching as the vendor Zoom underlined the early successes of its AI investments as being key drivers of its total revenue growth. Its revenues grew 2.6 percent year over year for Q4.
Zoom also stressed that AI Companion has already generated 7.2 million meeting summaries and underlined how its AI-first capabilities supercharged an impressive quarter (and year) for its Contact Centre business.
Eric Yuan, Zoom Founder and CEO, also highlighted how AI Companion had been integrated across Zoom’s portfolio of products.
“Zoom AI Companion, our generative AI assistant, empowers customers and employees with enhanced productivity, team effectiveness, and skills,” said Yuan. “Since its launch only five months ago, we expanded the AI Companion to six Zoom products, all included at no additional cost to licensed users. But we are far from done. Our future roadmap to AI is 100 percent guided by driving customer value.”
Zoom’s AI Companion launched last autumn to great fanfare, with Yuan also teasing that more news about updates for the solution will be revealed at next month’s Enterprise Connect.
Among the key features of AI Companion, which hit the one million meeting summary milestone in October, are AI-powered meeting summaries to assist users in catching up on missed information, intelligent recording capabilities for meetings such as highlights, chapters and summaries, and in-meeting questions for the AI Companion based on the meeting transcript.
