What Has RingCentral Been Up To in 2024?
Last month, RingCentral reported several high-profile UCaaS wins as it reported its most recent quarterly earnings.
The vendor reported a sales increase of nine percent year on year for the quarter ending 31 December 2023, above the midpoint of its guidance.
On the earnings call with investors, CEO Vlad Shmunis highlighted the growth RingCentral had seen in the enterprise space, which was outpacing the wider business. Figures released ahead of the call illustrated that annualised recurring revenue (ARR) among enterprise customers topped $1bn for the first time.
Shmunis added context to these figures by unveiling UCaaS contract wins, albeit without naming the customers. However, he also referred to a 15,000-seat deal won with Ikea in conjunction with Vodafone, with which RingCentral partners in Europe.
In January, RingCentral elected Ned Segal to its Board of Directors.
Segal brought a wealth of experience as a financial executive to RingCentral. He was Chief Financial Officer at Twitter between 2017 and 2022. He was removed from his position along with several other executives after Elon Musk purchased the social media business in October of that year.
Before that, Segal was Senior Vice President of Finance of Intuit, an enterprise and financial software business, and Chief Financial Officer of RPX Corporation, a former publicly traded company that offers patent risk management and discovery solutions.
In this phase of the UC boom, merely excelling as a UCaaS or CCaaS vendor may no longer suffice for sustained growth, which Shmunis referred to as a “tremendous inflexion point” for the industry. Bringing on board a financial executive like Segal at this juncture potentially indicates RingCentral’s ambition to leverage his strong financial expertise as the vendor evolves to navigate an uncertain market.
