Barco Opens Centre In Wuxi, Targets Chinese Market Expansion

Barco has opened a new production and R&D centre in Wuxi, China, and affirmed its ambition to “deeply cultivate the Chinese market”.

Last week, Barco opened the Barco (Wuxi) Technology Co., Ltd. production and R&D centre, which will focus on the vendor’s engineering projector business. Barco emphasises that its strategy is predicated not only on “In China, for China” but also on “In China, for the world”.

In a blog post commemorating the centre’s opening, Barco said:

Barco Wuxi will further strengthen the localization of technology research and development, solution design, production, and after-sales support of Barco engineering projectors by integrating global resources and using local advantages, thus enhancing the ecological chain construction.”

At the opening ceremony, Barco guided guests on a tour of the Wuxi Production and R&D Centre, which covers an area of 15,000 square metres and features advanced automated warehousing and material picking systems equipped with automated internal logistics and production assembly lines.

It plans an annual production capacity of over 20,000 projectors and key components. The facility includes a 1,620-square-meter storage space standing 24 meters high, accommodating approximately 7,000 pallet lots and 20,000 box lots.

Barco’s Ambition With Projector Engineering

Barco’s blog noted that, in recent years, China’s professional AV system integration market has been continuously developing, with a growing demand for projection equipment in cultural tourism night tours, museum exhibitions, stage performances, and higher education and research fields. Barco stated that this presents market opportunities.

Barco’s engineering offers an extensive projector lineup, ranging from lumens to 75,000 lumens, excelling in picture quality, colour reproduction, installation features, and long-term stability.

Barco also highlights the completion of benchmark projects, including the Tsinghua University Virtual Simulation Emergency Disaster Handling Laboratory, the “Painting a Thousand Miles of Rivers and Mountains” Palace Museum Immersive Art Exhibition, and the opening ceremony of the university student games.

Barco affirms that establishing the engineering projector production and research centre in Wuxi is part of its localisation strategy in China. It iterates that this strategy brings Barco closer to Chinese customers, shortens R&D and market response times, and allows for a better understanding of Chinese customer needs through localised R&D and production.

What Has Barco Been Up To In 2024?

Earlier this month, Barco announced that its ClickShare Bar range of devices was formally certified as carbon neutral.

Barco’s CO2-neutral certification by climate advisory organisation CO2logic means the ClickShare Bar range is the second ClickShare product to receive the CO2-neutral label, following the ClickShare Conference CX-50 2nd generation. Barco states that the ClickShare Bar is “the first carbon-neutral video bar for wireless conferencing on the market,” reaffirming its commitment to climate action and marking a significant milestone towards achieving a fully carbon-neutral offering for meeting collaboration.

In February, Barco partnered with Microsoft Teams to bring ClickShare device data to the Microsoft Teams Rooms Pro Management Portal and Pro Portal to improve management and end-user experiences.

IT managers will gain deeper insights into room and device usage, while users can expect a consistent quality experience on Teams and other platforms. The Barco ClickShare solution enables users to host calls from their laptops and video conferencing platforms, utilising the audio and video equipment available in meeting rooms.
