Asana is enhancing its project and workplace management platform by introducing several new compelling features, including “smart” and “weighted” goals.
Asana’s feature update for summer 2024 is designed to streamline goal management by automating tedious tasks. This enhancement simplifies the processes of defining, monitoring, and achieving objectives and optimising resource distribution.
Asana’s release around the news said:
Research shows that 87 percent of workers at companies with clear, connected goals feel well-prepared to meet customer expectations. Yet most US workers believe their organisation’s goal-setting process needs innovation, with 88 percent of executives and 86 percent of operations and PMO leaders agreeing. That’s what Asana’s summer 2024 release is addressing – making it easier to set smarter goals, gain valuable insights faster, and streamline work.”
Perhaps the most eye-catching new feature is Smart Goals. With this capability, Asana AI aims to help users set clear, practical goals optimised for their organisation, offering AI-suggested tips to draft impactful, standardised goals based on best practices.
Meanwhile, Weighted Goals allow for the customised impact of each project, task, and subgoal on a user’s goal’s progress, with custom weights and automatic progress rollups for real-time precision. Capacity Planning utilises AI to project staffing needs intelligently, ensuring proper resourcing.
Lastly, Portfolio Summary Reports enable users to rapidly share big-picture updates with leaders and export portfolio updates in an exec-level PDF format, streamlining communication and reporting.
More AI Integrations
Asana stresses that integrating AI into team workflows not only saves time but also ensures projects remain on course. Further AI capabilities were also added to Asana this summer.
With Smart Projects, Asana AI accelerates project initiation, automating work to simplify processes and enhance efficiency. Asana suggests this is particularly beneficial for creative projects that demand quick starts and streamlined workflows.
Advanced Dependencies are crucial for keeping projects on track, especially for successful product and campaign launches. The Microsoft Integration minimises the need to switch between apps and automates scheduling with Asana and Microsoft calendar integrations. Work Intake through Smart Projects allows teams to commence new tasks and projects rapidly and cleanly.
Lastly, Automated Scheduling with Microsoft integration facilitates recurring scheduling and notifications, improving workflow efficiency and enhancing communication across teams.
Asana’s sandbox environment also aspires to offer a secure space for users to explore, learn, and integrate new features like Asana AI without disrupting their current workflows. It provides an ideal setting for training and onboarding, where new users can be trained, and training materials can be developed ahead of widespread deployment.
Additionally, it allows for the evaluation of new functionality, enabling users to thoroughly test essential functions such as AI capabilities and integrations, ensuring they integrate smoothly with existing systems.
What Else Has Asana Been Up To In 2024?
Last month, Asana announced Asana AI teammates, a new artificial intelligence solution to enhance worker productivity and collaboration.
Asana AI teammates are promoted as flexible and customisable collaborators designed to support teams. They provide advice on priorities, enhance workflows, and even execute tasks. Adapting to the unique working styles of individuals and teams, they ensure human involvement at every step. Additionally, they offer complete transparency and control over how AI supports their work.
In June, Asana stressed the seismic potential of AI in project management technology in its latest earnings call, as the project management technology business doubled down on integrating it across its core platform and services.
During its Q1 FY2025 earnings call, Asana CEO and Co-founder Dustin Moskovitz celebrated the company’s remarkable achievement of a 13 percent year-over-year growth in Q1 revenues. Moskovitz also expressed excitement about the impact of AI on enhancing Asana’s products, particularly highlighting the recently launched AI-powered Work Graph collaboration solution.
