Microsoft, Lumen Elevate Digital Transformation With Advanced AI

Microsoft and Lumen Technologies have partnered to elevate digital transformation with advanced AI and networking functionality.

The partnership will entail leveraging Microsoft Cloud to enhance Lumen’s digital transformation. Lumen will support Microsoft in expanding its network capacity and ability to address the growing demand for its data centres with the explosion of AI.

“AI is reshaping our daily lives and fundamentally changing how businesses operate,” said Erin Chapple, corporate vice president of Azure Core Product and Design at Microsoft.

We are focused both on the impact and opportunity for customers relative to AI today, and a generation ahead when it comes to our network infrastructure. Lumen has the network infrastructure and the digital capabilities needed to help support Azure’s mission in creating reliable and scalable platform that supports the breadth of customer workloads—from general purpose and mission-critical, to cloud-native, high-performance computing, and AI.”

Microsoft stresses that data centres are now the backbone of the digital world, especially for users and enterprises relying on the Microsoft Cloud. As Microsoft expands and scales its ecosystem, the company says it has chosen Lumen as a critical network infrastructure provider, collaborating to bolster the next wave of apps for its global platform users.

Lumen’s Private Connectivity Fabric represents a bespoke network solution, encompassing key access to Lumen’s existing fibre network, deployment of additional fibre along current and new pathways, and integration of Lumen’s advanced digital services.

Microsoft says this AI-optimised infrastructure will enhance the interconnectivity of its data centres, delivering the necessary network capacity, performance, reliability, and speed to meet customers’ growing data requirements.

“We are preparing for a future where AI is the driving force of innovation and growth and where a powerful network infrastructure is essential for companies to thrive,” added Kate Johnson, president and CEO of Lumen Technologies.

“Microsoft has an ambitious vision for AI, and this level of innovation requires a network that can make it reality. Lumen’s expansive network meets this challenge with unique routes, unmatched coverage, and a digital platform built to give companies the flexibility, access and security they need to create an AI-enabled world.”

Lumen is undergoing a transformation, streamlining and enhancing its operations by leveraging Microsoft’s cloud and AI technologies. Lumen says this strategic move enables it to reduce technology-related expenses, phase out outdated systems, break down operational silos, refine its service offerings, and innovate new solutions tailored for its worldwide clientele.

Lumen’s transition to Microsoft Azure for workload migration and modernisation, coupled with the adoption of Microsoft Entra solutions for fortified access and identity attack prevention, marks a pivotal step in this transformation. This transformation is also anticipated to produce an improvement in Lumen’s cash flow, exceeding $20 million over the coming year, all while elevating the customer experience to new heights.

This news signifies the expansion of the partnership between Lumen and Microsoft. Lumen has been utilising Microsoft Copilot to streamline routine tasks, reduce employee workloads, and augment the capabilities of Microsoft Teams.

Lumen Now Supports Zoom Contact Centre Solutions
