Cisco has opened a second data centre in the UK to enhance Webex Calling in the region and across the globe.

Cisco states that this expansion will benefit enterprise customers and partners in the UK by bolstering services while fulfilling compliance requirements to address ongoing regulatory demands. The new centre intends to support Webex Calling’s cloud calling services to over 15 million users across more than 170 nations.

Rahul Dubey, Director of Product Management in Global Market Access at Cisco, wrote in an announcement blog:

To support our growing global installed base, we’re excited to announce the launch of a second calling data center in the UK. This expansion supports our enterprise customers and partners in the UK by providing improved service reliability, enhanced compliance, and solutions for evolving regulatory requirements post-Brexit.”

Cisco’s new Webex Calling UK data centre is based in Manchester and aims to complement the existing facility in London. Both UK data centres support multi-tenant and Dedicated Instance deployment models for Webex Calling. This second data centre’s addition ensures that active and redundant calling media and signalling data remain within the UK region.

The Manchester data centre will assist Webex Calling customers in both commercial and enterprise markets. It will also serve regulated industries such as finance and government, which require calling (media and signalling) data to remain within the UK.

The recent launch of Cisco’s second UK data centre follows its establishment of media Points of Presence (PoPs) in the United Arab Emirates, Brazil, and South Korea. Over the next year, the company plans to expand its data centre footprint further to bolster service for its global Webex Calling user base.

Cisco Collaboration Merges With Networking and Security, Orders Grow ‘By Double Digits’

Cisco confirmed that its Collaboration arm will merge with Networking and Security in a corporate restructuring while outlining that its Collaboration product orders grew “by double digits” in its most recent earnings call last month.

During Cisco’s Q4 FY24 earnings call, CEO Chuck Robbins announced a strategic move to unify the company’s Networking, Security, and Collaboration teams into a single organisation. Leading this new division, seasoned Cisco executive Jeetu Patel has taken on an expanded role as Chief Product Officer, overseeing the integrated business’s product strategy and development.

“Today, I shared that Jonathan Davidson has made the decision to step away from his current role leading Cisco Networking and will now serve as an advisor to me,” Robbins said. “With this, we are bringing our Networking, Security, and Collaboration teams together as one organisation led by Jeetu Patel as he takes on an expanded role as Cisco’s EVP and Chief Product Officer.”
