The Dell 55 4K conference room monitor is one of the most cost-effective ways to enhance your hybrid workplace, with high-quality visuals and convenient connectivity.

However, this display is definitely one of the more affordable options on the market for conference rooms. It can even support touch screen interactivity (for a slightly higher price).

If you’re looking for a straightforward room display that combines a 4K resolution, with plenty of connectivity options, and intuitive controls, the Dell Conference Room Monitor is a great choice. It’s affordable, sleek and stylish. Plus, it’s great for sustainable companies. This eco-conscious monitor features 85% post-consumer recyclable plastic, and a few energy conservation features too.

The downside is there aren’t any built-in cameras, microphones, or AI tools, so you’ll need to purchase all of those extras separately.

However, it’s still an effective option for companies looking for an affordable way to enhance meetings with high-quality visuals and touchscreen capabilities.

The standard version of the screen (without touchscreen functionality) only costs a little over $1,000, while the touchscreen version is almost three times the price ($2,799.99). However, I’d consider upgrading if you spend a lot of meetings using whiteboarding tools for brainstorming.

Let’s start by examining the display itself. Dell promises a crisp, clear, and attractive viewing experience with its 4K LCD flat panel. The device comes with “ComfortView” technology, and anti-glare, anti-smudge coatings for a better viewing experience, and greater legibility.

There’s also built-in in-plane switching technology, so you’ll see consistent colors across the screen, regardless of where you’re sitting or standing.

If you splash out on the touchscreen model, you’ll get a fantastic multi-touch experience with built-in palm rejection to help people write naturally on digital whiteboards. Dell includes a dual-tip stylus with the touchscreen display, offering access to a fine writing tip and an eraser that makes it easy to sketch ideas or add annotations to documents in seconds.

Plus, the twenty-point InGlass Touch technology supports multiple people writing on the screen at the same time. It can easily track different users simultaneously, so everyone can work together on the same project without disruption.

I particularly appreciate this display’s “inclusivity” features, too, such as the “Screen Drop” solution, which allows you to quickly adjust the screen to users working from different heights.

Ease of Use and Management

Since this display isn’t packed with as many advanced features as some of its competitors, you won’t really need to spend a lot of time setting everything up. You can easily mount the screen onto a wall with a VESA mount, and start using it instantly for all kinds of collaboration sessions.

There’s also the option to use the various ports on the device to connect your display to remote management tools and other add-ons, like webcams and microphones. I do see the lack of an integrated microphone and webcam system as a bit of a downside, however, as it means you’ll need a lot more wires around your screen for a full hybrid conferencing session.

On the plus side, the connectivity options are pretty broad. You can access a range of USB-C ports and HDMI cables to link all of your devices to the display in seconds. This could be ideal for companies that want to take advantage of BYOD policies, without the need for wireless casting.

A significant problem, however, is that there’s no built-in device management software for your Dell tools. That doesn’t mean you can’t access third-party device management solutions through the screen. However, various other leading vendors do offer their own kits for endpoint management.

I would have liked to see the same functionality offered by Dell, as the ability to remotely monitor the health of all of your devices can really come in handy – particularly in larger offices.

Collaboration Features and Capabilities

As mentioned above, the Dell 55 4K conference room monitor is a collaboration display mainly in the sense that it can showcase your collaboration apps and meetings in excellent quality. The display is compatible with most major meeting room software, like Microsoft Teams and Zoom Rooms.

It’s also compatible with plug-in webcams and microphones if you want to actually interact with hybrid and remote team members. However, there’s none of this technology “built-in” to the display. Choosing the touchscreen model will give you a slightly wider range of ways to collaborate through digital whiteboarding apps.

However, if you’re looking for a truly “all-in-one” experience, there are definitely better options out there – although they might be more expensive. On the plus side, Dell’s screen is designed to make multi-tasking pretty simple. There’s an “Easy Arrange” feature for viewing multiple tabs and apps at once. Plus, you can save your preferred configurations to use later.

Still, I would have liked to see more capabilities for things like “presence-based” meeting joining and wireless screen sharing.

Sustainability and Customer Service

One area where the Dell 55 4K conference room display does have an edge over some competitors is in its approach to sustainability. I mentioned above that the monitor is designed with 85% post-consumer recyclable plastic. Plus, it meets with the latest environmental standards, like ENERGY STAR, so it’s great for green companies.

The display is also shipped in eco-conscious packaging, and it comes with useful features like “PowerNap” which automatically dims or puts your monitor to sleep when it’s not in use. I think Dell could have taken these features to the next level in some ways, though. For instance, a device monitoring software solution would allow business leaders to actually track how their endpoints are being used, helping them to make more sustainable decisions.

Plus, sensors included in this screen, similar to those in the Neat Board, could have offered more insights into the environmental quality of different meeting spaces.

On the plus side, Dell takes customer service and support very seriously. This monitor comes with a 3-year advanced exchange service. That means if anything goes wrong with your device, you can get a new one shipped to you the next business day.

You can also “upgrade” your support with Dell’s premium services for access to set-up, configuration, and troubleshooting assistance from trained experts.

Ultimately, the Dell 55 4K conference room monitor isn’t the most awe-inspiring display I’ve tried for meeting rooms. It’s definitely easy-to-use, convenient, and a good option for sustainable companies, or those with limited budgets.

The screen quality is excellent, as are the touchscreen capabilities, if you’re willing to pay a little extra for your device. However, Dell’s display struggles to compete with the likes of other high-end solutions that include cameras, microphones, and AI-powered tools.

That being said, if you don’t need a particularly advanced monitor for your meetings, Dell’s conference room monitor is a reasonably affordable and reliable choice.
