As outlined in a recent blog post, notifications can now be positioned in one of four location in Microsoft Teams: bottom right, top right, bottom left, or top left. This enhancement aims to reduce distractions and improve productivity by enabling users to tailor notification placement to their workflow preferences.

Will it make a real difference? Imagine you are mid-presentation, deep in a slide deck and riffing on an important trend which could move the needle for your business. Then, suddenly you are getting called by accounts to submit your latest expense report, or your work bestie wants to discuss Friday afterwork drinks… we have all been there!

For those that don’t have a strong need for notification placement, it provides a great opportunity to play – Notification Penalties, which corner is your comms coming from today?!

To adjust notification positions:

  • Navigate to Settings > Notifications and Activity> Display within the Teams application.
  • Select the option for notification location that best suits your needs and preferences: Bottom right, Top right, Bottom left, or Top left.

Availability

It’s important to note that this feature is currently available exclusively to members of the Teams Public Preview or Microsoft 365 Targeted Release programs on the Teams Windows client. Microsoft encourages users to provide feedback on this feature to facilitate further improvements.

This update addresses a longstanding request from the Teams community. For some time, users have advocated for greater control over notification placement to minimize interruptions during work.

Positioning notifications in less intrusive areas of the screen helps minimize distractions, enabling users to concentrate better on tasks. With notifications appearing where they are most visible and least disruptive, users can stay informed without breaking their workflows, thereby boosting overall efficiency.

Microsoft Teams Experience

This feature is part of Microsoft’s broader effort to enhance user experience in Teams. Recently Employee Experience Platform Achievers launched a new app for Microsoft Teams that rewards users within the tool. It enables users to send recognitions directly during Teams meetings, enhancing real-time engagement. Brand customisation is also available to align with specific customer or program names.

Other recent updates include the ability to pop out the Chat, Copilot, and Notes panes during meetings, reflecting the company’s commitment to refining the platform based on user feedback.
