Over two-thirds of UK workers want a greater say in their company’s direction as AI continues to sweep almost every industry, according to new research from monday.com.

monday.com’s survey of over 520 UK employees revealed that 67 percent want more significant influence over their company’s direction, while half seek increased transparency regarding workplace and technological changes. Additionally, 38 percent of respondents are concerned that AI could replace aspects of their work they find fulfilling, underscoring the need to balance innovation with employee satisfaction.

It’s clear from the findings that UK employees are eager to take ownership of change. Rather than simply adapting to new developments, they want to play an active role in shaping them. AI, for all its potential, is only as good as the trust and transparency surrounding its use. Despite shifting economic and technological priorities, monday.com found that most UK employees understand what success looks like, thanks to clear leadership and goal-setting. Seventy-nine percent are committed to their company’s growth, while 84 percent feel informed about their team’s performance, reinforcing a culture of transparency.

However, monday.com suggests clarity alone isn’t enough and that employees want a deeper connection to their company’s vision. Complementing those two-thirds wanting more strategic influence, 72 percent seek greater ownership, while over half of respondents (51 percent) said better progression opportunities would boost motivation.

UK Workers’ Attitudes Towards AI In More Detail

The UK’s AI Opportunities Action Plan aims to boost productivity by 1.5 percent annually, and monday.com reports that employees see AI’s potential to enhance work. Three-quarters are open to AI tools, with three-quarters embracing AI features in existing platforms to streamline workflows. Among AI users, 90 percent report spending less time on repetitive tasks, while 81 percent say AI improves problem-solving and creativity.

Yet, optimism and adoption are caveated by concerns. While 38 percent worry AI may replace tasks they enjoy, almost a third of respondents fear job displacement. Additionally, 33 percent believe AI needs better automation, security, and workflow enhancements, particularly in project management and software development.

As AI evolves, monday.com asserts that a balanced approach will be key to unlocking its full potential while addressing worker concerns.

Is There A Divide Between C-Suite Excitement Over AI And Worker Adoption?

As monday.com’s study illustrates, most knowledge workers in the UK are tentatively embracing AI’s potential to elevate their productivity, especially around performing time-intensive, low-focus tasks that allow them to focus on more urgent and higher-level responsibilities.

However, that a substantial number of workers are still concerned about their job security and about AI’s current capabilities and security liabilities affirms that there’s still a lot of work to do before it becomes a second-nature tool most workers will confidently use.

One of the most eye-catching statistics from monday.com’s report is that 52 percent of respondents call for better training to manage workplace changes, which includes AI adoption. Without clear and coherent upskilling initiatives, workers may struggle to fully leverage AI’s benefits.

For AI to be successfully integrated, it’s imperative that companies must provide transparent communication, better training, and measured implementation strategies. Employees want AI to complement their roles rather than replace them, meaning organisations must prioritise responsible adoption.
