The year is almost over, but there’s still time for a few final updates from our favourite collaboration and UCaaS companies. Following a series of updates in the last few months to the Zoom experience, including the arrival of Zoom Apps and the OnZoom marketplace, the video conferencing company has released a few extra enhancements.

Just in time to close 2020 with a bang, Zoom announced that it’d developed support for Apple Silicon processors, which means that the MacOS Zoom desktop client will now better support computers with ARM CPUs. Separate installers are also available in the Zoom download centre.

Enhanced cloud contact integrations are also available now for Windows, Linux, MacOS, iOS, and Android. Contacts imported through the contact service will now easily be available to add as a Zoom contact. Once you approve someone as a Zoom contact, you’ll be able to call them, met with them, and see their status.

Zoom Meeting and Webinar Features

To transform the meeting experience even further, Zoom introduced the arrival of nonverbal feedback and reactions. Windows, Linux, iOS, and MacOS users will be able to use nonverbal feedback options through the reactions button. The reactions will appear in the corner of the participant’s video, and hosts will see each of the participant’s reactions in the list of attendees.

Raise hand features are now available for co-host and host abilities, with MacOS, Windows, Android, Linus, and iOS users. Hosts and co-hosts will now be able to utilise the feature alongside webinar attendees and meeting participants.

Poll reports will also be available through live sessions for Mac, Linux, and Windows users. The meeting and webinar hosts will now be able to download the full poll results when the poll has ended during a live session, instead of waiting until the end of the meeting or webinar.

In meetings, Zoom is introducing improved grouping of security options for scheduling too. The “only authenticated users can join” option will now be available in the Security section of the schedule window, and it can group with waiting room and passcode options for easier use of security features.

Updates to Zoom Phone

Some of the major updates to arrive at the end of this year were focused on Zoom Phone, with support for SMS and MMS functionality rolling out to all users with Phone Pro licenses. You can now assign direct phone numbers to users for receiving and sending texts. Enhancements are arriving for call queues with call monitoring, and there’s a “call end chime” available too, which allows users to know when a call ends abruptly.

An additional feature to arrive on Zoom Phone this month was the option to launch an external URL or app for incoming calls. You can now configure Zoom phone to launch a specific URL or app when receiving a call, and you can pass additional parameters to the website or app with percentage arguments.

Zoom finished its update announcement by noting that it has fixed a variety of minor bugs that customers have been facing up until now.
