Zoom Improves Chrome OS Experience

Zoom is set to release a new Progressive Web App (PWA) for Chromebook users.

The PWA will be available via the Google Play store today and will appear as an application on devices that run Google’s Chrome operating system.

In a blog post, Tain Barzso, Product Lead for Education at Zoom, said: “We’re excited to announce we’re launching a new Zoom progressive web application (PWA) for Chrome OS!

“This will improve the Zoom experience for Chromebook users, and give them access to even more Zoom features on Chrome OS devices”

Zoom said new PWA will bring a host of new features to Zoom for Chrome OS, including:

  • Customizable Gallery View (on supported machines)
  • Self-select Breakout Rooms
  • Live transcription
  • Live translation (with assigned interpreters)
  • A new background masking feature for privacy
  • Raised hand and meeting reactions

The vendor added that more new features will be added over the coming months. Zoom users with the PWA will get updates to the platform automatically.

PWAs are web apps that can be installed onto a device in the same manner as an app, but are created using the same technology that powers websites.
