Microsoft Teams usage ‘has never been higher’, according to CEO Satya Nadella – but Microsoft stopped short of releasing updated usage figures.

Nadella was speaking on an earnings call for Microsoft’s Q1 results – on which company execs have typically, but not always, given an update on how many users Teams has grown to.

Teams did however feature prominently on the call, with Nadella revealing that 138 organisations now have more than 100,000 users, with 3,000 businesses at over 10,000 users. Voice in teams has also been mentioned more and more by Nadella.

“We’re taking share across PSTN, and VoIP,” he said. “Calls originating from Teams chats increased 50% this quarter compared to a year ago. Operator Connect enables organisations to bring their existing service directly into Teams.

“Moving forward, organizations will need a digital fabric that spans organizational boundaries to address key challenges like customer service swarming and supply chain resilience.”

Nadella was speaking as Microsoft revealed Q1 sales of $45.3bn, a 22 percent increase on the same quarter last year. Net income was up 48 percent to $20.5bn.

Microsoft saw growth across all its business units except for Surface hardware, which continues to be hampered by supply chain constraints and tough comparison quarters last year.

The vendor revealed in July that Teams was up to almost 250 million monthly active users, with Teams Phone at 80 million. This marked a change in approach from Microsoft which had previously reported statistics in the form of daily active users.
