Businesses are increasingly looking to service the needs of their customers more efficiently and to maximise the use of their often limited resources. By adopting Unified Communications as a Service (UCaaS) – a cloud-based communication system that combines voice, video, chat and file sharing – they can streamline information flows and improve collaboration.

Doing so enables organisations to provide a single voice communications topology for both their internal and external communications while moving away from expensive legacy hardware, in turn driving improvements in worker productivity.

What is more, UCaaS systems can be modular, meaning that enterprises can pick and choose the communication channels that matter most to them, retaining the flexibility to scale up or down as required by changing circumstances. They are remotely managed, which reduces the need for in-house configurations and maintenance.

But holistic change can only be achieved when the entire workforce, including frontline workers as well as their desk-based colleagues, have access to the same tools. Since 1990, enterprise mobility provider Spectralink has championed the importance of bridging the divide between off-premises and on-premises workers.

“To ensure information is properly shared in the organization and better decisions are made, it is vital for businesses that frontline workers are able to access the other members of their distributed team,” says Andy Macqueen, Spectralink’s Business Development Director. “This is finally doable, thanks to the integration of UCaaS with DECT infrastructure.”

Spectralink offers full integration with a range of call control systems, from legacy on-premises private branch exchange (PBX) to a range of cloud-based communications system providers. This means that frontline workers have access to the same information as their desk-based colleagues, improving productivity and bringing disparate business units closer together.

By integrating UCaaS and DECT, businesses can:

  • Unify their entire enterprise workforce on a single voice platform
  • Easily scale communications by deploying the optimum equipment, wherever it is needed
  • Provide disparate teams with the productivity tools they need, wherever they are located
  • Reduce operating costs through single technology solutions while retiring expensive legacy hardware

In the past, moving away from a legacy solution was a lengthy, disruptive and expensive initiative, but, as Macqueen explains, the process is becoming increasingly frictionless. “Businesses do not need to reinvent the wheel to achieve these benefits, they can use their existing Spectralink DECT infrastructure and migrate to a centralised, cloud-based UCaaS solution without the need for a costly and lengthy recabling project.”

Earlier this year, Spectralink rolled out a key integration between its suite of DECT solutions – ranging from enterprise-grade handsets and wireless phone systems to base stations and servers – and Microsoft Teams, the leading global collaboration tool. “This integration has really helped to make a single voice platform a reality for all types of workers across a range of different businesses, without the need for complex legacy and 3rd party Session Border Controller (SBC) systems,” says Macqueen.

Utilising UCaaS to improve collaboration and the smooth sharing of data is increasingly vital for any distributed business looking to streamline its internal processes and stimulate growth. The integration of UCaaS with DECT brings essential, front-line workers into the fold, in turn providing them with access to the same information as their desk-based colleagues and increasing productivity, transparency and efficiency across the entire organisation.
