Zoom has launched new generative AI features that will help users compose emails and chat messages.

The new functionality, built into Zoom IQ, is powered by a partnership with ChatGPT creator OpenAI and will also summarise chat threads and create meeting agendas.

Smita Hashim, Chief Product Officer at Zoom, said: “Zoom has long built AI solutions into our products to empower customers to be more productive.

“We are excited to bring many more capabilities with new large language models.

“Our unique approach to AI will give customers the flexibility they want and help significantly improve collaboration and customer relations.”

Zoom highlighted three key features of the new AI tools:

  • Zoom IQ chat compose: Zoom Team Chat users will be able to compose messages based on the conversational context and change message tone to customise suggested responses
  • Zoom IQ email compose: Users will get email draft suggestions in response to the conversational context from prior Zoom Meetings, Zoom Phone calls, and email threads. Available initially in Zoom IQ for Sales
  • Zoom IQ meeting summary: Generate a summary, capture next steps, and share via Team Chat, Zoom Calendar, and email without recording the conversation, so those who didn’t attend will no longer have to sit through lengthy recordings

Zoom had teased the launch of AI features last month in a move to boost user productivity and collaboration.

Huddles and Email

Zoom released a flurry of updates as Enterprise Connect started, spanning email, video, calendar and CX.

The email products designed to help Zoom better compete with Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace, announced last year, are now available.

Zoom Mail Client lets users plug in third-party email services like Outlook and Gmail into the Zoom platform, while Zoom Mail Service is Zoom’s own hosted offering.

Meanwhile, Zoom Calendar – which lets users bring third-party calendar services into Zoom – has been given a makeover with a new persistent sidebar.

In customer experience, Zoom Contact Center is now available globally and has a new workforce engagement management feature to help agents optimise customer support.

The tool is available in beta, and lets businesses predict agent workloads to plan rotas.

Meetings and Scheduling

Zoom revealed a rebranding of its virtual coworking tool Spots, which is now known as Zoom Huddles. The feature was first announced at Zoomtopia last year and is designed to replicate sitting next to an employee in the office. It’s designed to be less formal than a Zoom meeting and sees users return to the huddle space when they leave calls and meetings.

Elsewhere, Zoom Scheduler is available in public beta. Scheduler, which integrates with Outlook and Google Workspace, lets users share their availability with colleagues and external people to speed up meeting booking.

In Zoom Rooms, Zoom launched a new feature for its smart gallery. Intelligent Director, powered by AI, will use multiple cameras in a meeting room and select the best view for each participant.
