Masarek Appoints Key C-Suite Positions Ahead of Avaya Engage

Avaya has announced three new critical hires for its C-Suite ahead of its flagship customer & partner event Engage. CEO Alan Masarek has been waiting to emerge from Chapter 11 proceedings before appointing key senior staff and implementing his new strategic objectives. More key hires will undoubtedly follow as Masarek works to rebuild trust with his customers and partners.

The hires include:

  • Amy O’Keefe – Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
  • Omar Javaid – Chief Product Officer (CPO)
  • Josh Mueller – Chief Marketing Officer (CMO)

Perhaps the most significant hire announced is CFO Amy O’Keefe. O’Keefe comes with 30 years of financial expertise and a proven track record. Most recently O’Keefe served as CFO of WW International (formerly Weight Watchers International), where she played a key role in the company’s rationalization and realignment strategy. Given the financial woes of the last few years, O’Keefe will be viewed as a safe pair of hands.

Masarek commented: “We operate in a very competitive technology industry, and seasoned executives like Amy, Omar and Josh could choose to work anywhere.

“Their decision to join Avaya is strong affirmation of the company’s potential and validates that we have set Avaya on the right path for our customers, partners and employees.”

Masaerek makes a valid point but has clearly leant on past successes and relationships to entice both Javid and Mueller into the Avaya fold. Javaid most recently served as SVP & GM at Qualcomm, and previously as President of the Nexmo API platform unit and Chief Product Officer at Vonage. He also served on the Board at TV Guide International, as SVP & GM at TiVo, and in leadership roles at Google, Motorola, and Hewlett-Packard.

New CMO Mueller recently served as SVP and GM of the Portfolio Business Unit at NI (National Instruments). He previously was Chief Digital Officer at Vonage, CMO at Dun & Bradstreet and held marketing leadership roles at Dell Technologies.

These hires are crucial for Maserak and is another hurdle cleared for the CEO. As is consistent with Maserak’s transparent approach, O’Keefe, Javid & Mueller are expected to be present at Engage next week (18th June).
