For public sector companies, few things are more important than building an effective environment for consistent communication and collaboration. The better teams can work together, the faster they can resolve problems, and serve citizens in need of critical support.

The New Zealand Trade & Enterprise (NZTE) Digital Operations Department, a government group in New Zealand, discovered in recent years that its collaboration strategy simply wasn’t working for an evolving team. Though the company had attempted to digitize its communication processes before, it had struggled to effectively unify their teams.

Employees were struggling with complex legacy communication tools and video conferencing applications, leading to losses in productivity. Fortunately, the team found the solution they needed in the form of the Zoom platform.

Simplifying the Communication Strategy

The NZTE group believed video should be a core part of their communication and collaboration strategy going forward, but team members had often struggled with complex tools in the past. The organization decided it needed a solution that was both simple, and effective. When they came across Zoom and Zoom Rooms, they were surprised at how straightforward the technology could be.

Zoom proved to be not only more reliable than the organisation’s previous video conferencing platform, but more user-friendly too. After a quick trail period, the public sector group deployed Zoom Rooms in every office (a total of 43 rooms). Following positive feedback from employees, the brand took its investment a step further, more than doubling its Zoom Room investment.

The decision to implement Zoom was the beginning of a brand-new business model and communication strategy for the brand. The easy access of the platform propelled the Digital Operations platform into the future, and paved the way for more streamlined collaboration. NZTE even integrated Zoom with the Microsoft Outlook and Teams applications, for more versatile meeting experiences across a range of platforms.

Implementing Zoom also empowered NZTE to revamp its annual internal conference, using video to stream content straight to employees across a distributed landscape.

Unlocking New Opportunities with Video

As a government organisation, NZTE was particularly impressed by Zoom’s phenomenal security features, end-to-end encryption, and password-protected recording options. However, the team also appreciated how fun the platform was to use. Today’s team members are constantly leveraging virtual backgrounds, in-meeting polls, and breakout sessions.

The Zoom platform has had a significant impact on the group’s productivity levels. Team leaders are noticing higher levels of diversity and engagement in meetings. Additionally, the public sector group noted that Zoom has helped them to cut costs too. Because staff members can now meet and connect from anywhere more effectively, their need for travel has dropped significantly. What’s more, investing less in transportation means NZTE is accelerating faster towards its goal of achieving a zero-carbon footprint by 2050.

According to the NZTE team, Zoom has allowed them to connect securely from any environment, on any device, without compromising on user experience. With Zoom, the organisation now has a phenomenal cloud-first strategy, which allows them to meet the future, whatever it might bring.
