Lenovo and Lightware have partnered to launch an advanced solution for Microsoft Teams Rooms designed to enhance hybrid work.

The offering combines Lightware’s advanced Taurus devices and LARA control software with Lenovo’s ThinkSmart solutions for Microsoft Teams Rooms (MTR). The joint solutions aspire to set new standards for collaboration technology by offering seamless integration, enhanced functionality, and an improved user experience in modern meeting room environments.

Andrea Recupero, Smart Collaboration EMEA Director at Lenovo, said:

Lenovo is collaborating with Lightware to enhance the capabilities of ThinkSmart solutions for Microsoft Teams Rooms over Windows. By adding the capabilities provided by Taurus, we can offer customers a more complete and seamless solution for better meeting experiences.”

Lenovo offers a comprehensive range of UC solutions for meeting rooms of all sizes, including the ThinkSmart Full Room Kit MTR bundle. This package features a core computer, control interface, AI-based camera, smart soundbar with microphones, Premier Support, and premium remote manageability software.

By integrating this technology with Lightware’s Taurus series hybrid matrix switchers and built-in Lightware Advanced Room Automation (LARA) control software, users can maximise the capabilities of their Lenovo MTR infrastructure. This integration facilitates the routing of video and USB signals, allowing Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) peripherals to connect to the MTR system. After a BYOD call, Taurus automatically switches the video and peripherals back to the MTR system.

“Lightware is excited to collaborate with Lenovo to enhance meeting room experiences,” commented Gergely Vida, CEO of Lightware. “Our Taurus series and LARA software bring seamless integration and advanced functionality to Lenovo’s ThinkSmart meeting room solutions. Together, we are setting new standards for collaboration technology.”

Additionally, Taurus enhances the Lenovo MTR system by increasing the number of compatible sources, supporting both USB-C and classic HDMI+USB connections. The Lightware Companion App, installed on the Lenovo core, provides real-time call status feedback to LARA, enabling smart logic functions, automatic switching, and routing with or without user interaction.

Taurus also serves as a central room controller, with the user interface running inside LARA and displayed on the Lenovo screen. This lets users access room control functions, such as volume, lighting, projector/display settings, and more, directly from the Lenovo display.

What Has Lenovo Been Up To In 2024?

In March, Lenovo expanded its ThinkSmart portfolio to support businesses upgrading their smart meeting rooms.

The Lenovo ThinkSmart Tiny Kit and the ThinkPad Universal USB-C Smart Dock – ThinkSmart Edition empower users with innovative collaboration capabilities and provide IT managers with managed meeting spaces. These solutions transform basic meeting rooms into advanced video conferencing spaces and Microsoft Teams Rooms, enhancing modern workplace environments’ overall productivity and efficiency.

Meanwhile, Lenovo added a video looping capability in January that allows users to duck out of calls briefly.

Revealed at CES 2024, it functions by a user recording a three-second video of themselves. The video is then looped in forward and reverse until the user is back and ready to re-engage with the call.
