Microsoft To Add a Central Hub For Teams Channels And Chats

Microsoft is set to add a centralised hub for Teams channels and chats in October.

The new hub, which will be named “All your teams and channels view”, aims to offer users a general overview of all their teams with the capability to select channels all within one homepage. This intends to boost productivity and streamline collaboration.

The official 365 Blog Post reads:

A new ‘your teams and channels’ view provides you with a centralized hub where you can see all your teams and navigate to their channels from one page. This interface streamlines your workflows, enabling you to quickly access and manage your teams and channels.”

Earlier this month, The Verge reported that Microsoft is internally trialling a new version of Teams that merges both its text chat and channels into one new user interface. However, it’s uncertain whether this centralised hub feature posted by the 365 Blog is the same feature.

The centralised hub will start rolling out in October and for Desktop Teams platforms.

August’s Major Microsoft Teams News

Last week, version one of Speaker Progress for Microsoft Teams became globally available.

As part of the Learning Accelerator toolkit, Speaker Progress offers real-time AI coaching to help students enhance their presentation skills. By recording their presentations within the application, students receive feedback from the AI Speaker Coach on aspects such as content, delivery, and engagement. Educators also gain access to a “rehearsal report,” highlighting students’ strengths and areas for improvement.

Additionally, this month, Microsoft tied security efforts to the performance review of every employee.

The Verge reported that it had seen an internal memo from Microsoft’s Chief People Officer, Kathleen Hogan. In it, Hogan outlined that not producing substantial work focused on security could negatively impact every worker’s salary increases, promotions, and bonuses.

The tech giant previously announced that it was linking the fulfilment of security goals with executive compensation in an expansion of its Secure Future Initiative (SFI), first announced last November. This further extension of that policy to every employee seemingly intends to underscore its commitment to “making security (its) top priority, above all else”.
