Zoom has launched its cloud PBX service ‘Zoom Phone’ in India, which now offers global native coverage in 50 countries.

Zoom Phone brings multinational corporations (MNCs) and local Indian companies ‘unrivalled simplicity’ and the latest technology, according to the video conferencing platform.

Beginning with the availability of the service combining India phone numbers in the Maharashtra Telecom Circle, native phone number support will then be added to the country’s key technology centres in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Mumbai, and Delhi.

Velchamy Sankarlingam, President of Product and Engineering at Zoom, commented on the introduction of Zoom Phone in India: “Zoom’s cloud PBX service meets the requirements of India’s Unified Telecom license which requires building the dedicated local interconnection infrastructure in accordance with the regulatory requirements.

“This demonstrates Zoom’s commitment to bringing a trusted service that our customers want.

“Globally, Zoom Phone saw continued expansion in the market, amassing five Zoom Phone customers with 100k+ seats in Q1 FY25, demonstrating our customers’ trust in Zoom for critical employee and customer experience processes.

Sankarlingam continued:

“Our latest offering reaffirms Zoom’s leadership in delivering seamless cloud services on a global scale, enhanced by local investments to help ensure compliance and service excellence in every market, including India.”

Zoom in India

In April 2023, the Indian government granted Pan India Unified Licenses to Zoom. Since this time, Zoom India has determined to setup a dedicated domestic infrastructure to enable Zoom Phone, while complying with the necessary regulatory requirements.

As a result, Zoom was able to launch the ‘first-of-its-kind’ licensed cloud PBX service with local Indian phone numbers.

Zoom Phone delivers secure, flexible, and reliable communication features that connect with Zoom Workplace and Zoom AI Companion.

AI Companion improves productivity by furnishing users with post-call summaries so that they can give customers their full attention, without having to simultaneously take notes.

It also provides local telephony services and an add-on for its paid customers.

Inbound and outbound calling is supported by the public switched telephone network (PSTN) and meet various business communication demands through a single platform solution.

Further Zoom Phone features include voicemail prioritisation, which surfaces the most important messages, and voicemail task extraction to generate a list of tasks from voicemails.

Zoom Phone’s all-in-one collaboration platform can be incorporated with contact centre partners, popular business apps, and hardware providers.

Sameer Raje, General Manager and Head of India & SAARC region at Zoom, believes there are many benefits that Indian businesses stand to gain with Zoom Phone: “We are excited to bring Zoom Phone to India, first rolling it out in the Maharashtra Telecom Circle (Pune), empowering multinational enterprises and homegrown companies of all sizes to support dynamic workstyles, improve employee engagement, and elevate the customer experience.

“The launch of Zoom Phone marks a significant milestone in Zoom’s commitment to the Indian market.

“This achievement represents our dedication to delivering a reliable collaboration platform that powers limitless human connection and solves real business problems for our customers.”

In November last year, Zoom announced at its Q3 2024 earnings call that Zoom Phone now has seven million paid seats, while Zoom AI Companion has already gained over 220,000 accounts.
