Amazon has reportedly adopted Zoom as its platform of choice for internal meetings while also rolling out Microsoft 365 productivity tools across the company.

As first reported by Business Insider, Amazon is making Zoom the official meetings platform across the organisation, replacing its internal video and audio calls app Chime in the process, signalling a major win for the all-in-one collaboration business.

Business Insider quoted an internal Amazon memo:

Zoom is replacing Amazon Chime as the standard meeting application for Amazon internal meetings.”

An Amazon spokesperson confirmed in an email to the enterprise news outlet that the company will phase out the Chime application, citing its “limited” external use.

“When we decide to retire a service or feature, it is typically because we’ve introduced something better or our partners offer a solution that is a good fit for our customers as well as our own employees. In Chime’s case, its use outside of Amazon was limited, and our partners offer great collaboration solutions, so we will lean into those.”

Zoom’s spokesperson didn’t respond to Business Insider‘s request for comment.

The memo also identified that Amazon has begun internally rolling out Microsoft’s 365 productivity tools. At the end of 2023, Amazon signed a contract worth over $1 billion with Microsoft to subscribe to one million Microsoft 365 licenses for its corporate and frontline workers.

Amazon employees will reportedly transition to Microsoft’s cloud apps on a “rolling basis”. As part of this migration, they will gain access to services such as Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

While Zoom will be adopted for internal meetings, the memo also highlighted that Microsoft Teams will be utilised for meetings requiring “full integration with M365”. Moreover, Cisco Webex will be employed for customer meetings using Cisco’s products.

Zoom Releases Workflow Automation To Elevate Enterprise Productivity

This week, Zoom announced that its Workflow Automation solution is now generally available to elevate business productivity.

First revealed last summer, Zoom Workflow Automation allows users to automate routine processes within Zoom Workplace, leverage AI Companion capabilities, and reduce the need for manual switching between apps. By integrating with third-party tools like Jira, Google, and Microsoft through webhooks or direct connections, Zoom Workflow Automation aspires to enhance efficiency and collaboration across business systems.

Paid Zoom users can now access Workflow Automation at no additional cost during the free trial period. To take advantage of this feature, admins and account owners should ensure their Zoom Workplace app is updated to version 6.3.10 or later. They can activate Workflow Automation through the admin portal, allowing their teams to streamline processes and improve efficiency.
